Brodie Martin

Talk on the national game

Brodie Martin

Postby Big Phil » Thu Jul 16, 2009 5:34 pm

Just heard on 5AA that young Sturt listed player and Adelaide Crows Rookie Brodie Martin has been elevated to the Crows senior list.

He has also been named in the 25 man squad for the clash against St. Kilda on the weekend...

I saw Brodie win the Bob Lee medal for BOG in the SANFL reserves Grand Final last season and have seen him progress very well to an AFL rookie listed player, SANFL league player with the Double Blues, represent South Australia in Pert against WA and now promoted to a senior AFL list.

Congratulations Brodie and good luck if you manage to make your AFL debut this season...

Should be noted for the U18s advocates that Brodie played a full year of U19s before finally developing enough to get his shot at SANFL/AFL footy.

He's one that will now slip through the cracks in the new system and will go on to play a distuinguished career with Meningie rather than having a crack at the highest level.

How so when so many overage players can now currently play for the Under 18's?

Fair point, I will be fascinated to see how long this lasts though.

Also, one has to acknowledge for the 19yo on the cusp that they may be much less inclined to have the stigma of playing a year below with very little hope for most of playing league when they may be able to earn a mint playing country footy.

He's been in great form of late, I thought he was probably one of our best last week if not best, didn't get a mention from the club though. Well done Brodie, good luck.

Ah another Meningie boy on the site. Dunno if Margie would want him to miss the opportunities he has in front of him. Good luck Brodie

One of the few good players for Adelaide this evening - don't think Sturt will be seeing much of him the next few years.
They don't keep me here because I'm gorgeous and 5'10

Well done Brodie.. A goal with his first kick in the AFL, running away from St Nick on the wing (and leaving him exhausted),honest contributions and being a rare shining light in the losing team. The beginning of a successful career :D

Several times I have mentioned how well he has played in the SANFL

ST V WA Unley oval was a moment
Brodie gets the ball on the Grandstand wing
bounce bounce bounce bounce [about 4 or 5]
gets to the forward pocket
shoots from a difficult angle for a goal
Glad Ive lived long enough to see that
BM will be a future best and fairest winner for AC

Wouldn't be surprised if he won the Rising Star award, first game in. The break away from Riewoldt was one for the highlights reel

That's a 6'6" fella that get's away from virtually all defenders and is quick, not express, but quick. It's more so that he had the confidence to do it in his first game that shows what the lad has got. That wasn't the only thing he done either if you watched the game. Most of his disposals were quality and he stood out in a team that got spanked (finally).

Hopefully he cements his spot in the side and plays in adelaide's final campaign. At least then he won't be playing for Sturt when the Dogs cross paths with them during the finals.

Sheez redden.... carrying some issues are we ?? In a game where there weren't many highlights, a first gamer taking on one of the AFL's premier footballers and succeeding surely counts as a 'highlight' in an otherwise average performance from the rest of the team. Now go have a lie down mate...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

He gets the ball ;he has a paddock in front;he runs ................... gee some fans are easily pleased.
If Matt Rendell says" he reminds me of Malcolm Blight" when talking of Taylor Walker I reckon " he reminds me of Usain Bolt" may be trotted out soon.
