Talk on the national game

I've had a gutsfull and it 'aint beer....

Postby Booney » Mon Jul 13, 2009 12:52 pm

For months I have often just shrugged off some of the performances the Port Adelaide FC has put up in the AFL as merely part of the yo-yo type seasons they have put me through over the last 3 years, but no more shrugging, enough is enough.

Last year we saw our insipid efforts loose us “un-losable” games at home to Brisbane and Richmond and this year I have seen us roll belly up to St.Kilda ( no real issues, they are the best out there ) the Bulldogs ( also a good team ) but then we beat Hawthorn and Brisbane convincingly? Melbourne get “up” when they find out their Pres is riddled with the almighty “C” and beat West Coast who haven’t won on the road since 2006 or thereabouts but then, then they face Port who are playing for Finals and need to beat every team they can between now and September, and Melbourne had to be one of those teams, they just had to be. Some of you may have noticed I said nothing in the Prt V Melbourne thread pre-game as I held grave fears for this match and my predictions were spot on, infact I had a bet at my local with a punter there, Lions to win Port to lose and he happiy gave me 3/1. My $20 has tripled.

Well I have had enough of the type of efforts or distinct lack of that many Port players have been dishing up and also the manner in which it appears as though they are instructed to play for if we served up to Melbourne yesterday what we dished out to Brisbane the week before the ‘Dees would be lamenting instead of enjoying yesterdays game. I can take no more of these piss weak efforts and up and down form.

Peter Burgoyne and Danyle Pearce should never play AFL football for Port again, period. When Bruce McAvaney calls your efforts pathetic ( as he did of Burgoyne yesterday ) you know something is up,for Bruce loves everyone and is very rarely critical of anyone. Burgoyne was a disgrace yesterday and if I saw him in the street ( I might even go to Alberton Wednesday to watch them train ) I’ll be telling him that a 33 year old bloke with no talent and distinct lack of fitness like myself would show more heart and put in more effort than he did yesterday , and I would also challenge Pearce to a race. Sounds odd? Well I’d ask for a 2 metre head start and he would never catch me because he doesn’t have the onions to put in any sort of effort to chase, tackle, harass, for crying out bloody loud even if he got in the way of somebody by mistake I’d take that as an effort.

Michael Pettigrew can go back to West for at least a month and not just get back into the side on one effort ( I know he was a quick easy fix for the loss of Chaplin ).

Ebert and Westhoff can go to Alberton and Elizabeth respectively for at least, at very least 2 weeks and Salopek can go to the Bay for a fortnight too.

I heard Williams say that many of the Port players out of form have been left in the side through lack of options in the SANFL. Are those ( in the SANFL ) out of form, or just no good? If they are no good then the football department have some questions to answer.

So, Out – Burgoyne and Pearce for good.

In – Broadbent and Lower for good.

Out – Ebert, Westhoff, Salopek, Pettigrew

In – Meyer, Salter ,the other Westhoff and Farmer.

No doubt the missing Motlop,Boak,Burgoyne and the only very recent return of the Chad hasn’t helped us over the last few weeks but for the blokes out there they have run out of chances with me.

If you want to head to Alberton on Wednesday morning you might want to tell Cory Wingard there will be one bloke worth filming and he wont be training but giving the players some truths.

Furiously,

Booney.

good wrap up Booney.

P Burgoyne is the stand out for me though he wasn't running either way at least Pearce was running forward.

Pettigrew got stitched up by a bloke who was playing with no shoes 350kms away from Alice 12 months ago, no disrespect to Jurrah he is a special talent.

I thought Ebert had turned the corner with a good game v Brisbane but he took another backward step yesty.

J Westhoff didnt look interested at all.

Salopek just needs some confidence i think his effort is still there.

How Broadbent hasn't got a game so far is beyond me, the kid can play and will try.

Lower is an interesting one from the outside it looks as though the coaching staff don't rate him but his SANFL form has warranted call ups and they continue to find a reason to drop him after 1 or 2 games.

I'd be inclined to put Ebo in the middle. And if for some outrageous reason Pearce isn't dropped, then i'd trial him in a forward pocket, straight swap for Ebert.

Both have really had their chances, but at their best are good enough to play in a very average first 21.

I thought i was being generous with 21. I can really only find 5 AFL players within the Power squad.

A major issue that needs to be rectified ASAP is that EVERYONE at the club need to be made accountable.

At the moment players are consistently not performing yet are still being picked week in week out.

The coach has been in charge of an underperforming side for 2 straight seasons yet has been told he will be re-signed.

Without having any knowledge of the coaches box the idea that our assistants are Primus, Mcguinness and Cripps doesnt fill me with confidence.

As i said in the Melbourne vs Port thread why did they pick Pettigrew When Broadbent has been playing excellent footy for the Eagles

Highly questionable, unprofessional, unaccountable bunch in the coaches box.
And now your stuck with them for the next 2 years. Well, at least Choc.

The club needs a massive clean out, and replace unaccountable coaching staff.

Not that I care all that much, but from an outsider looking in, Chocko has had his time at Port Adelaide. He's been there for a decade, won them a flag, but they are stagnating under Chocko.

Time for them to part ways, and for the Port Adelaide Football Club to enter a new era without a Williams on board. I just get the feeling that by retaining Chocko, they ate still hanging on to past glories, and it's time to move on.

I know this guy has been injured this season, but over the past 2-3 seasons I just cannot believe Salter cannot score a game for the Power. If his name was Ebert or Williams he'd have been a regular selection.

I would say Salter would be a real chance for an AFL game this week. He had an interrrupted pre season, and was injured a couple of months ago. He's played the last 3 games in WWT's League side after being out for 6 weeks or so. After 3 good games he now needs to come into the side.
