Bugger, I liked Dean.... maybe the Roos are making sure they are proactive in regards to getting the next coach while other clubs (read Port) dilly dally about their coach for next year. David King would be a big chance, deserves to be rescued from Richmond!

Who would be the main contenders, King, German, Longmire, who else?

Is it likely they would look to retain a Roo's connection?

I like Dean Laidley, he doesn't skirt the issue and is a man's man and on the whole I'd have thought he's done reasonably well with the Roos ... Dutchy and other Roo's fans naturally would have more idea (or feeling) on that.

I had a mate in the rooms a few weeks ago and heard a lot of yelling coming out of a room. few minutes later a well known media man walks out then Laidley. Laidley told to fix the issue,s back then. German will be a chance for some role as i am led to believe he has spoken to the club already.

Once again a loss to the Crows spells the end of a North Melbourne coach!

Wow, I can't believe Trevor Marmalade was arguing with Laidley.

Yep, a 1993 loss to the Crows(in a pre-season match  ) cost Schimmelbush his job & in 1997 a 22 goal thumping cost annoying Richmond coach Robert Walls his job too.

Seems to becoming a common trend now that if it looks increasingly unlikely that you wont be coaching the following year then you cut a deal with the board and leave 1/2 way thru. I would expect the same thing to happen to Port within the coming weeks.

That's because when you lose to Adelaide, you know it doesn't get any worse...

I guess 8 times in a row means it is time to go then...

I made a comment in the "Coaching Musical Chairs thread" that after Richmond acted I wouldn't be surprised if other clubs expidite their decision making process so they can position themselves to get their preferred candidate of choice.

Interesting situation at the Bulldogs where Eade hasn't been signed up yet despite his team flying ATM ,will the Dogs move quickly now to lock him away before another club pounces???

I reckon Swooper is OTM, Port will act soon one way or the other.

Yes, I've heard nothing but good things about Longmire and he's done a fairly long apprenticeship.

Gotta name for us?

Feel sorry for Dean, tactically one of the best in the business - Just doesn't have the cattle to play week in week out against the league heavyweights. He certainly instilled an element of accountability, sense of belief and competitiveness among his troops that got them into the finals more often than not with Dean at the helm.

Would love to see him get another job, but he is North Melbourne through and through and would be surprised if he coached at AFL level again.

Did well with what i think was a pretty ordinary list. Obviously a good tactician and hopefully his services are not lost to the AFL. He will probably be a football operations manager at another club next year.

Believed to be an amicable departurre.
I find that strange, was he pushed? Kangaroos won't find a better coach than him. He was the sole reason behind their competitveness. Could easily have languished down on the bottom of the ladder with mediocre coach who lacked motivation. Got every cent out of his players.

If he told me to put my head over the ball, i'd f*ckin well listen. Can only imagine the magnitude of some of the sprays he's dished out in his time.
