CK's Argument Settler Quiz (Extended)

Postby rogernumber10 » Tue May 05, 2009 4:02 pm

This one has apparently been debated back and forth around cyberspace over the last little while with no answer, until now. Who, in VFL / AFL history, are the leading pairs of players (teammates I mean) to have taken the field together for a club in the most matches. You need some big numbers to get on the page.

A bit more work done. We can now take in the top 10 in history if people want to have a crack at pairs 5-10.

1. Kevin Bartlett & Francis Bourke 289 matches together of a possible 358 for Richmond (1967-81)
2. Brad Johnson & Scott West 287 matches together of a possible 345 for the Western Bulldogs (1994-2008)
3. Nathan Burke & Stewart Loewe 280 matches together of a possible 358 for St Kilda (1987-2002)
4.Tyson Edwards & Andrew McLeod. 280 matches together of a possible 312 for Adelaide (1995 - Round Six, 2009)
5. Ben Hart and Mark Ricciuto. 267 games for Adelaide between 1993 - 2006.
6. Scott West and Chris Grant. 267 games for Western Bulldogs between 1993-2007
7. Chris Grant and Rohan Smith. 260 games for Western Bulldogs between 1992-2006.
8. Leigh Matthews and Kelvin Moore. 258 matches for Hawthorn between 1970-84.
9. Robert Harvey and Nathan Burke. 253 matches for St Kilda between 1988-2003
10. Mark Ricciuto and Andrew McLeod. 253 games for Adelaide between 1995-2007

LOL...yes, this one came up on RPH yesterday morning on the show and yes, is being hotly debated by a growing group of people.

My first thought was Michael Tuck and Gary Buckenara.

Tuck (426 games), doesn't make any of the four pairs of teammates, which was a bit surprising.

Hmmm...that IS surprising. I won't just keep guessing all day, but on a hunch, will throw Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards into the mix.

On the basis of pair number four which CK called, both players need to have played a minimum of 280 games to qualify for this list, so that rules out Lloyd, and provides a decent edit on who to look at from here.

Bruce Nankervis (better known as John in the CP household ;) ) didn't get to 280 career games. Watson and Madden fell short.

Would be 300 games for John McFarlane and Peter Carey...

Seeing as the VFL State League is included in this quiz no reason why the SANFL can't, IMO
