So Called footy experts

Postby The Wuss » Tue May 05, 2009 3:07 pm

Did anyone notice the poor proof reading skills employed by a so called footy expert.....

heres the article http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,25422632-19742,00.html

In his article Mark Robinson gets, not 1 but 2 players names wrong!

I'm really starting to get tried of poor quality of football reporting.

Do any of these experts actually have a clue as to what is going on?

I read recently that back in 1972 there were only 20 journalists covering the then VFL. Now there are about 890 AFL-accredited journalists on the gravy train. Obviously the competition has expanded considerably since the early 70's but you'd have to wonder whether there are nearly 900 footy journos with something worthwhile to say.

Stop whinging.
If you you don't like journalists, then go live in North Korea or Burma.
They seem to have the right idea about free press.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Bit of a harsh call on a poster just voicing his opinion Mr66 - I thought that this is what the forum was for?
But Feck that's an idea! At least their reporting would be accurate as they will truely be held accountable...

Unless you played the game at AFL level, the training course to become a football journalist involves spending 5 years in the Himalayas, totally divorced from the game, and then when you return you know as little as possible about the game. Then, you are able to report on the game.

The other way to enter into football journalism is to have a father who is also in the industry. That opens doors, even though you may be a complete dunce.

You can forgive Mark Robinson, he works on SEN, the station where near enough is always good enough.

Telling people what they can or cannot say? Sounds like attempted censorship to me, not at all akin with the priciples of "free press" :)

Sorry mate, don't have one this year.
Didn't get organised!

I can give you one to the Loxton North v Waikerie game, or any RFL match for that matter ;)
