Round 5: Port Adelaide vs St.Kilda

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Apr 23, 2009 11:02 am

After beating the reigning Premiers, many have high expectations for the Power against the Saints.

I am going to tip the Power in this one, just because of the plain fact it is at AAMI, if it was in Melbourne, i would have gone the Saints.

Power by 21 points.

I subscribe to rucci's theory about port and expectation. that is when theres no pressure and everyone expects us to lose, well prob win and vice versa. happened last week. theories dont always pan out but there is alot of evidence this century of port dealing with expectation. however im gonna go against the trend and be optomistic and tip port by 3 points. i also think our side looks better balanced with peter burgoyne out.

PORTS TREND.

Port are a side that win the unexpected ( Hawthorn ) then get inflated heads & lose the following week.
In saying that stupid me has picked Port by 15pts.

Saints by 4 goals in a low scoring game! Port dont like stop start footy, they like to run the ball, so if the saints stop ports run then they will win, expect both teams to push numbers behind the ball (flood) so will be an ugly game with lots of ball ups!

Milne to kick 4 for the saints and motlop to kick 4 for port!

Port should win easily. Saints have too many fair weather footballers whom they rely on the get most of their footy e.g. Montagna, Dal Santo, Milne, Schneider, Gram. Unless Lenny Haynes and Luke Ball get 35 each the Power will romp home by 3-4 goal!

WOW .. I only had one concern for Port tonight, and it was expecting how their physicality would stand up in in a soggy game against this mob, BUT, even if they'd lost that I thought they'd be competitive.

Either I've underrated the Saints, Overrated Port or a combination of both, just not sure which of the 3 it is!!

I think we've all over rated the Saints. They were impressive, Port ordinary. Saints will certainly be a contender this year, Port to finish 8th to 12th.

Was a great night. The port "supporters" where i was sitting need to rid themselves of the unhealthy obesssion they have with umpiring and admit to themselves they were slaughted in the areas which Port sides apparently are renowned for. i.e TOUGHNESS.

I've made my one post in the Power forum for the year so I'll go 8)
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

The umpires were an absolute joke, but had absolutely no impact on the result. They probably actually favoured Port.

Yeah they are a worry. Some of those holding the ball decisions really are bewildering.

Saints were fantastic last night and Port were terrible. Hard to find a winner for Port on the ground. Hayes, Fisher, Riewoldt and Milne were all very very good.

St Kilda were awesome, Port were terrible. The only positive was Robbie Gray who was given a heap of time on ball. This guy is gonna be a champion, and not one of these "outside" champions we seem to breed. On the other hand how much longer can brett ebert keep his spot?

5 matches 9 reports???

last nights game confirmed what i have said about port, that they are fake tough.... wont get a hard ball but will dump a bloke after he kicks it or knee them when there on the ground.

Chaplins high arm swing on Riewoldt was pathetic , will get games and had no impact on Riewoldt. If you are going to do it , make it worth while.

What does Choco do with Tredrea ? he wouldnt kick a kick in the SANFL ... moves at snail pace.

Are you serious? he has kicked 14 goals in 3 weeks..... after all he has been through with his knee troubles, he is exceeding expectation by a mile so far this year (except for first two games when he was a bit quiet and last night). Yes i know he kicked them against an undermanned Hawthorn and a hopeless Melbourne, but you can only kick them against who you play against. Last night against St.Kilda he slotted two goals out of 6, so thats not a bad effort, especially with the delivery.

Tredrea is the best forward Port have got at the moment, i wouldn't get rid of him. Out of the forwards to drop, i would be dropping Ebert. He has done nothing at all this year and bugger all last year. Get him back in the SANFL for a while.

Thurstans survived the last four years living on 3 goals he kicked in the 2004 GF, how much longer can Ebert live on 50 goals he kicked 2 seasons ago. Not sure he has played anything resembling a good game since then. Looks lost most of the time. Is there anybody out there who can play forward pocket and get more than 5 touches a game?
