Freo to give Harvey the heave-ho?

Postby Benchwarmer » Sat Apr 18, 2009 10:11 pm

After his side kicks 4.4 in a complete match (it doesn't matter who it was against), it may be the point where Rick Hart slashes something else rather than the price of electrical goods ... more like a swift slashing of Mark Harvey's coaching neck!

Once again the Shockers look rudderless, hopeless and devoid of leadership.

Time for us to throw some coaching names in the hat - being a WA club you have to remember that the culture here is to go for locals before interstaters.

Two that spring to mind from the system at present are:

Don't jump the gun. They've turned over a big chunk of their list into kids the last 2 years and I think the Saints are the real deal this year. This is their worse loss and lowest score but the Saints are strangling most sides this year so far.

Changing coaches after round 4 would be an even bigger clanger than most they have pulled in their history. Not sure if that was the idea?

They do look a bit of a rabble but apart from Pavlich, they are struggling to find many established, good AFL players right now. I'd suggest any coach would struggle and to put it all on Harvey is scapegoat hunting.

S**t Kilda will not win a Grand Final in September as long as I live.

They are the most over-rated under-achievers in the history of sport. They never made the top four in their time in the VFA and SOMEHOW they got the nod over Port Melbourne to become one of the original eight in the VFL - and didn't that decision pay dividends! ONE FLAG IN 113 AFL SEASONS

That is a total of one senior flag since their formation in 1873 (only 136 completed seasons!)... and don't you dare count any Mickey Mouse night series/pre season finals into this equation!

Watched most of the game and while the scoreboard wasnt good, Freo's endeavour couldnt be questioned, they really put in, just their skills and decidion making is deplorable - they just aint got the cattle full stop, no wonder Pavlich wont come home, with a list like that he can get half the salary cap!

Saints are the real deal this year, top 4 for sure, unless the DOOM undo's them

They've turned over a lot of experienced players in recent times the Docks. They could bring back Sheeds/Parkin/Hafey all into one and still struggle to win games. Better sides than Freo will cop it from the Saints on the Dome until the injuries kick in.

Why would you feel sorry for Pavlich? It was his choice to stay there, he could of came back to SA, but no, he wanted to represent the Dockers!

Even though I don't think the guy can coach necessarily, I do think he deserves a go with these young guys. Losing 1500 games worth of experience in the last six months has to give him a reprieve, because I think they've finally turned the corner by getting rid of the dead wood. Their on field results will take a lot more time.

Fuzz

Three worse eras that the 2008 Fremantle squad:

1. Fitzroy of the 1990s
2. Melbourne of the late 1970s/early 1980s
3. St Kilda from 1897 to WWI

All of these teams had players worse that Freo and they all had players (probably 75% plus) who were not very worthy of gaining status as a player at the highest level of competition.

Fitzroy were financially handicapped.

So were Melbourne.

Fitzroy just shouldn't have been there but instead were given drip payments to last another 10 years when the Swans, Eagles, Bears and Crows came in with their licence fees.

They were heavily heavily rumoured to move to Brisbane after 1985 (hich turned out to be pretty much on the mark) but in the end they remained in Melbourne. Funny how they say history never repeats - it did in the mid 1990s when they finally made the move north.

Fitzroy? No they didn't. THE Fitzroy Football Club is still in Melbourne.

And I agree...the Fitzroy of 1996 were worse than the Fremantle of 2009.

For the moment Freo supporters just need to be patient as they rebuild.

I know that and you know that but look at the AFL's merchandise ... I know that Brisbane never won the flag in 1944 but all the supporter caps and other guff say so and so many people are swept up by that propaganda that I forgot myself for a moment there - sorry.

I know that the company holding the FFC name sponsored the University Reds in the late 90s and IIRC as a result they changed their name to Fitzroy Reds FC - also because the Uni didn't care much for their "third side" anyway. There was also a junior club set up about 5-10 years ago too I believe and they are in the Yarra JFL now.
