Western Bulldogs Season 2009

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Mar 26, 2009 1:07 pm

Welcome to the Bulldogs thread, all talk on the Dogs for season 2009.

This year the Doggies will be up and down.

They will play finals but won't finish top 4.

My Opinion: Western Bulldogs to finish between 5th and 8th.

VERY impressive.
Blew away a very competitive Fremantle side when challenged during the
3rd quarter. Their last 1/4 was scary/awesome.
Top two finish on this display.

Fremantle are not that good and the Bulldogs play Subiaco very well.

It is very early to be calling them a top 2 side, They were impressive though,

Great start to the year by the Doggies, but have let themselves down the last couple weeks.

I still expect them to make the top 4.

Is something not right at Whitten Oval. To me the bulldogs started the season so well, but have really given nothing the last few weeks. Very disappointing today in periods, looked disinterested. Fair enough they played the form side of the comp, but still. Thoughts?

They are all over the shop at the moment, maybe we have expected too much from them?

Forward line is a big issue for mine. Have no power forwards and need goals from a healthy Murphy, Johnsons and blokes like Gia. Tough to kick winning scores against quality sides with that sort of set up IMO. Welsh may be due for a recall very shortly.

definately the biggest problem is our forward structure. All we need is a player of the Pavlich, Reiwolt, Franklin variety and things would change. Minson, Hahn and Welsh just don't cut it as big forward targets. The crows are in a similar position with Porps as their main target and not much else. our advantage is we have many avenues to goal through Johno, Murph, Aker, Higgins etc but lack that big target.

they will come good but against a good defensive side that put a lot of pressure on we will struggle. need to win this week to even think of a top 4 finish though. 5th-8th for mine... on recent form

Aker was super again tonight.

Battled so hard, was a bit disappointed not to see them win.

was devestated with the loss!!! poor Johno... i didn't get to see it, was listening to triple M and they had mixed feelings as to how gettable Johno's kick was! obviously there's more to the match, i just happened to turn it on with 6 minutes to go!

i think like most teams the dogs are a little up and down ATM, let's hope they keep up the intensity they played with tonight and start to put those lower teams away!

The Dogs are as good as any team going around with clearances, and if they can get some K's into the legs of Griffen and Cooney they should only get better, it's still all ahead of them, but if they can remain healthy they would only get better as the year goes along.

Aker should've had a free in the last stanza....That Geelong dude looked like he was trying to root him.

He got away with one not long before that though, although I thought on the night the Dogs probably copped a bit of a raw deal

Only has himself to blame. Should've kicked the goal. He should have stopped when the siren went and taken his time. Rushed it a little i reckon.

You mean when....

Aker got paid for a mark taking it on the half volley (goal)
A mark paid in the forward line that came off Mumford's hands (goal)
The deliberate out of bounds call against Corey when they had been letting things go all night (goal).

Evened out in the end I thought after we got some dodgy ones early.
