Sydney Season 2009

Postby hearts on fire » Thu Mar 26, 2009 1:04 pm

Home of the Swans for season 2009.

The Swans have been a competitive unit for a long time now, but i think they're run is over. They will struggle a bit this year and will fail to make the eight.

My Opinion: The Swans to finish between 9th and 12th.

Good to see the Swannies, being underrated by all and sundry this year. Hopefully Roosey and the boys will get the most out of the team and shock the AFL world and push ddep itno the finals again.

Smokey for the Brownlow is Jarrad mcveigh. had a brilliant break through year last year and will continue to impress this year. Paying $501 at the moment!

no chance. good player and all but goodes is just given votes before anyone else. he is a class above the rest and stands out from the team according to the umps. Mcveigh is a gun, and should have a real good year and back it up from last year

The amount of votes Goodes got last year was a farce. But if he plays a full consistent season is a very good bet along with Judd.

I would not be writing Sydney off. Still a chance to make the finals.

Hard to argue with CK ... Captain Kirk always good for a few votes too, and then blokes like Bolton pop up here and there ,, Not arguing that McVeigh is a good player and underrated, but no chance for the Brownlow mate (inho).

I reckon this is the second or third year in a row that everyone has written us off at the start of the season. I know that we are usually slow starters to the season, but we always tend to find a way into the 8.

I looked at the fixtures we have and predicted we would finish at 12 and 10. So that should see us in if it goes to plan.

Im not sure what everyone else thinks on here, but whenever Lewis Roberts Thompson gets the ball i know he is going to turn it over. IMO our worst player.

Also when he comes back from injury i hope Henry Playfair gets a game or 2 and does well. He has the potential.

how many years are you going to wait for it do you think? i liked him as a lead up forward but he never really got a chance playing 2nd fiddle at geelong, and then he gets his shot @ sydney and gets injured. fingers crossed. and yes LRT is a bit of a worry as a backman. :?

Are people still going to say we are a bottom 4 side and wont make the finals? What a performance last night. Top drawer. Surely people wont be writing us off anymore. We are every chance to make the 8 and go beyond that. GO THE SWANS!!!

To see the Swans kick 20 goals (in ONE game) an amazing thing, an indiaction of how poor the defense was ??

How good was LRT on Roughead on Sat Night? In fact our whole defence stood up.
McVeigh 3 votes and good to see young Jesse White and Brett Meredith in first game show a bit too. Bring on the Lions Sat Night!

Was always pretty confident Sydney would get over the line saturday night given Hawthorns absent players and Sydneys very good record over Hawthorn in the last 4 years.

Be interesting to see what comes of Brett Kirk at the tribunal because he is crucial.

Give the boys a huge chance of topping Brisbane in Brissy this weekend.

We have a great recent past record against them, Craig bolton and LRT to do the jobs on Brown and Bradshaw. And Darren Jolly to dominate the ruck with Jesse White with the Lions not having the best ruck department going around.
Kirky is back in form as well, and with runners Mattner, Teddy Richards and Rhyce Shaw creating rebound from defence it creates options further up the ground.

Must contain, Power, Black and co.

I think we'll get up by about 5 goal.

I reckon the Lions will get up this weekend and I'll be at the game to see for myself. The Swannies own the Lions of course but with Hall out and O'Loughlin missing an opportunity exists for the Lions defence to put in a better effort. With Patfull, Merrett, Drummond and Adcock down back they are finally starting to get the nuclues of a decent back six. As for Jolly and White being a gun ruck pairing, fair dinkum, the Hawks had Jarred Roughead in the ruck at one stage last week. Jamie Charman and Matty Leunberger will represent a much bigger challenge.

Lions by 14 points.

leunberger? what a joke reb.

Hall is making the trip up so don't count him out yet.

Jolly has been a revelation the last couple of years.

Goodes only got 24 disposals and four goals. He'll collect the three I'm pretty sure
