This is Mike Sheahan's Pre Season Top 50.

To avoid argument like we have had in another thread "Player X is better than Player Z".

This is how Mike has picked his top 50. The Pre Season top 50 comprises those i expect to have the greatest impact in the coming season. Selections are based on exposed form coupled with anticipated improvement. This list excludes players under an injury cloud.

2. Chris Judd
3. Lance Franklin
4. Dean Cox
5. Luke Hodge
6. Brendan Fevola
7. Jonathon Brown
8. Nick Riewoldt
9. Matthew Pavlich
10. Matthew Scarlett

11. Jimmy Bartel
12. Simon Black
13. Adam Cooney
14. Joel Corey
15. Matthew Richardson
16. Brent Harvey
17. Adam Goodes
18. Shaun Burgoyne
19. Daniel Kerr
20. Chad Cornes

21. Darren Glass
22 Jarryd Roughhead
23. Dale Morris
24. Cameron Ling
25. Sam Mitchell
26. Sam Fisher
27. Joel Selwood
28. Brad Sewell
29. Steve Johnson
30. Luke Power

31. Alan Didak
32. Ryan O Keefe
33. Brad Ottens
34. Daniel Bradshaw
35. Paul Chapman

38. Jarrod McVeigh

44. Brendan Goddard
45. Chance Bateman

Interesting List, some things i do not agree with. What is everyone elses thoughts?

It would be impossible to put together a list of your top 50 unless you were getting paid for it as I am sure it takes lots of time and research.

I am happy enough with his Top 10, couldnt argue with too many of those he has included.

Pavlich is better than 9.

Fevola a little high at 6 for me.

Not in the top 50.

I think Lake, Rutten & Firrito are all equally as good a full backs as Glass. Unfortunately I wouldn't have either of them in the top 25.

Look at the players rated behind him, Mitchell, Selwood, Swan, Deledio. All of these are perhaps lower than they should be IMO.

Firrito and Lake as good as Glass  ! Come on please lets be realistic.

Glass is bundled in with Rutten and Scarlett as the best three full backs in the league and that is by a fair margin. Glass had a poor year with injury last year but was All Australian Full Back the two years before that and IMO easily the best stopper in the league with Rutten second. I dont know how much of Glass you have watched in the past 4 years but to throw him in with Firrito and Lake is well off the mark.

Swan is overrated, Deledio still has a lot to prove to be above players like Glass. Selwood and Mitchell probably should be a little higher but considering Kerr is number 18 its pretty tough to find a spot for them.

Scotty Thompson has come 7th and 10 in the last two brownlows, and he cant even get in the top 50

As Booney said tough gig, and TBH I reckon Mike's made a fair fist of it ... Will always be conjecture due to opinion and allegiance over these things, but the list doesn't look unreasonable to me.

Deledio over rated? he won the B n F last year ahead of richo who came 2nd in the brownlow (or third) cant actually remember now.

I personally think Glass is over rated, Rutten and Scarlett have been real good full backs in average sides (thats when geelong were no good) and Glass as shown last year, struggled as soon as they didn have the best midfield applying pressure up the field. I feek Rutten and Scarlett have him covered by a big amount.

I agree with Cousins, Scott Thompson and around 50 others to be ahead of Birchall. He is going to be a pretty good player but in the top 50, i dont think so.

Last years brownlow medallist abit low is he?

Common theme in these Top 50 player list REB, he would not feature in many at all. This is a shame, because the man is a star - would be acclaimed in any other side in the AFL and attract the accolades he deserves. I saw an article on Real Footy today mentioning underrated players and he was obviously included.

Maybe he should come back to Port Adelaide! [-o<
