The article says it was a 35% decrease from last year. I think in view of the way some AFL players have difficulty in getting the message (in all areas of behaviour, not just drugs), the AFL would be reasonably pleased with the result.

i took it as only being down % wise because they were doing more testing compared to less testing last year

as a whole number i thought it is up

Two of the three players who tested positive twice, were cases where the players made porr judgements due to mental health issues.

4 cases were for Cannabis, 10 for stimulants.

Does anyone know what stimulants are on the banned list.

For example, a great natural stimulant is a Bulgarian herb called 'Tribulus Terrestris' which acts similarly to a steriod without the long term health effects. It basically gives you a massive jump in testosterone levels, which allows you to train like a machine in the gym and also helps with stamina on the football field (and other testosterone related areas   )

What about performance enhancers such as Creatine, which the body produces naturally, but in smallish doses? Essendon trialled the use of Creatine in the late '90's but apparently came to the conculsion that the added muscle mass was triggering an increase in knee/ankle/leg soft tissue injuries. It's handy for those with a slight frame to bulk up though.

I've used both and appart from having a constant twitch and spouting crap on this forum have had no noticable side effects :D . Didn't help my ability as a footbally, but helped me compete with the bigger boys.

Be your 'mail' correct or not we do not want to make a practice of naming players we 'think' are returning positive drug tests.

Banned stimulants are decided by WADA - the World Anti Doping Agency. ASADA - the Australian sports Anti Doping Agency - tests all Australian sports for performance enhancing drugs on behalf of WADA.

Banned stimulants are attached below. As a category of stimulants, that doesn't include the other banned categories of anabolic steroids, hormones, beta 2 agonists, hormone antagonists and modulaters, diuretics and masking agents, oxygen transfer enhancement (blood doping), chemical manipulation, gene doping, narcotics, cannabinoids, glucocorticosteroids and various sport-specific substances (not AFL):

STIMULANTS
All stimulants (including both their (D- & L-) optical isomers where relevant) are prohibited. Stimulants include: Adrafinil, adrenaline**, amfepramone, amiphenazole, amphetamine, amphetaminil, benzphetamine, benzylpiperazine, bromantan, cathine***, clobenzorex, cocaine, cropropamide, crotetamide, cyclazodone, dimethylamphetamine, ephedrine****, etamivan, etilamphetamine, etilefrine, famprofazone, fenbutrazate, fencamfamin, fencamine, fenetylline, fenfluramine, fenproporex, furfenorex, heptaminol, isometheptene, levmethamfetamine, meclofenoxate, mefenorex, mephentermine, mesocarb, methamphetamine (D-), methylenedioxyamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, p-methylamphetamine, methylephedrine****, methylphenidate, modafinil, nikethamide, norfenefrine, norfenfluramine, octopamine, ortetamine, oxilofrine, parahydroxyamphetamine, pemoline, pentetrazol, phendimetrazine, phenmetrazine, phenpromethamine, phentermine, 4-phenylpiracetam (carphedon), prolintane, propylhexedrine, selegiline, sibutramine, strychnine, tuaminoheptane and other substances with a similar chemical structure or similar biological effect(s).

* The following substances included in the 2008 Monitoring Program (bupropion, caffeine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pipradol, pseudoephedrine, synephrine) are not considered as Prohibited Substances.

** Adrenaline associated with local anaesthetic agents or by local administration (e.g. nasal, ophthalmologic) is not prohibited.

Well, if it's the player I think you are crapping on about, then you've lost your money.

Think about it for a minute. That player was on his 2nd strike last year. Any durther infraction would have been strike number 3, and instant ban. Since that hasn't occurred, we can safely assume that player has had a clean slate since.

So I suggest you refrain from trying to spread scurrilous rumours without any proof whatsoever.

Cheers r10.

Interesting to see that androstendione (or however it's spelled) is not on the list.

It's banned in the States and Aus, but is still able to be purchased at various places.

Apparently it killed a number of college football players in the States who were using massive amounts to beef up. Dangerous shit that stuff.

I agree - it's appalling. No second chance IMO - should be if you stuff up on such a serious matter at that level and you're out.

3 strikes and you're out is the out of competition testing for illicit drugs isn't it? If so, that's more than any other sports do to control it.

Test positive to a banned substance IN COMPETITION will still see you at the tribunal as far as I understand it.

If they are in your system on match day, you are out for two years, just like every sport, because WADA does the testing.

Away from match day, no Olympic sport tests whatsoever. NRL has club by club testing. Cricket has testing and AFL has this policy. Only the AFL releases its results publicly.
