What a shame Lappin's body has finally given up the ghost. He would have to be top 5 in the Lion's all time greatest players. Missed countless games through injury, but when he was on he was on. Just look at the way he played the '02 GF with cracked ribs and still contributed heavily. You will be soorly missed on the field Laps!!

BRISBANE Lions veteran Nigel Lappin has brought the curtain down on an illustrious 15-year career by announcing his retirement from football.

Lappin, 32, has finally succumbed to a persistent achilles injury that has kept him from playing since round four this year. The triple premiership player, who ends his career fifth on the Brisbane Lions' games record tally behind Kevin Murray (333 games), Marcus Ashcroft (318), Alastair Lynch (306) and Michael Voss (289), has been forced out of the game by the nagging complaint that has restricted him to just the four appearances in 2008.

Along with Voss, he was one of my favourite players in the Brisbane Line up. Great career.

Great effort from Lappin.
I thought he was gone a couple of years ago when he did his ankle but he ploughed on through 2007.
A quiet achiever who probably never got the recognition he deserved in not only the Lions' premiership years, but in those preceding it too.

Black, Voss, Lappin, Akermanis, Power ... for my money, still the best midfield I have ever seen.

3 brownlow medals / 3 premierships > 2 brownlows / 1 premiership

But they don't compete with A Jarman, D Jarman, Hart & Simms

Back on topic - Lappin was one of my favourite players and his effort with the ribs in the GF is one of the gutsier efforts of all time - altho I thought it was 2003? Excellent player, great career

Yep it was 2003 Hondo.
There were quite a few players on pain killers that day, same as 2004.
Those guys will pay for that in years to come, but I'm sure they'll say it was worth it.
