The Heatley Stand no more - Princes Park

Things change and time moves on, but I've had many a good memory sitting in the Pratt or Heatley stand as the Blue Boys come charging home...

The Heatley Stand is going to make way for a state of the art training facility for the Carlton Football Club and other sporting bodies.

Thought it'd be interesting to post the pics up as the work goes on for those interested....

My god!

I didn't know this was happening!!!

I can't understand why the RAFL are considering a new venue "close to the city" when Princes Park is prime location and all it needs is an upgrade.

Seems stupid to me, but oh well I'm not the RAFL.

Another piece of history gone to be replaced by "progress".

Still I am glad that the Crows dont have to play there any more, the Crows seem to do a lot better at the MCG & Docklands than at the old Princes Park - nothing like pissing your home ground advantage against the wall I suppose!

I've been watching the progress most days going past on the tram. A bit sad, but it is a dump.

My favourite Heatley Stand moment is the famous Peter Bosustow mark.

The stand is now gone, and the builders can come in and start the redevelopment....

What are they going to build, an apartment block? It can't another grand stand surely. Nobody will use it.

No not a Grandstand, they are redeveloping by putting in a training centre that will be used by Carlton, Melbourne Storm, Athletics VIC and a few other sporting groups. Jointly funded by the Carlton FC, Vic Gov, Melbourne Council and the Federal Sports incentives.

I will post some pics shortly as the company I work for are working towards providing a "Green building" in conjunction with other companies. Our part of the deal involves all Air diffusion and Air managment.

Is that for the Visy Park redevelopment Booney ? If so excellent work ! Would love to see the pics. Am heading over there in October and will head over to Princes Park for a squiz. Usually get shown around by someone if I mention that I'm from Adelaide and barrack for Stick's old team....

Yes it is,mind you the Mechanical specification drawings are not much to look at (unless you know what you are looking at) but I will get some emailed to me and will post them here or pm them to you.

I also have some internal architectural drawings.

The stand that was demolished - would that be the same one where they filmed numerous scences of the "Carlton Crew" for Underbelly?

IIRC the scenes were shot from the Gardiner stand, which is the second oldest Grandstand in the AFL/VFL ATM.

The Gardiner stand is the one in the demolition pic, with Optus on the roof. Here's another shot

SFL 3 time Assoc B Grade Medalist & Flagstaff Hill Legend Andrew Heatley is the Grandson of the man this stand was named after.

Andrew and his son Shane are mad Carlton fanatics who still ensure they fit in a trip to Princes Park and the Heatley Stand whenever they holiday in Melbourne. During every vist they are treated as VIP's by Carlton Officials, and get a guided tour to the rooms to meet players and coaches.

Andrew will be devastated. :(
