Ive heard Nathan bassett is a certainty to retire at the end of the year - this was from a good tomoto sauce too. Mark my words. As wilson has had a great career, so has the Bas!

I reckon he would have been pushed, as all indications up to now were that he was trying to regain fitness to recommence his career next season.

Surely this isnt suprising? esp with the young ruckmen doing so well....Im sure Rhett's only chance of playing next year would have been if the young rucks hadnt performed this season...

Still think Edwards might not play next year

I hope Rhett does retire, he won't get a game.

Edwards is a decent chance to retire at the end of this season.

McLeod to go one more year I reckon.

I reckon Edwards will want to play another year, whether or not the AFC want this could be another thing though.

I wouldn't be surprised, his knee is shot and he's only just getting around IMHO .. That said I didn't realise he had another year, so you're probably right mate.

Magical 300, then record, beckon for McLeod

ANDREW McLeod is far from considering retiring even though he celebrated his 32nd birthday yesterday, and will play his 300th game on Sunday, against Richmond at AAMI Stadium.

The Adelaide champion will become the VFL/AFL's 56th player to reach the milestone, and the following week will break Gavin Wanganeen's record for most games by an indigenous player.

"I've got another year on my contract so we'll see what happens there," McLeod said. "But at the moment I wouldn't say I'm content; I'm sort of happy if I get through that (next year)."

McLeod, a dual Norm Smith medallist, three-times club champion, five-times All-Australian and a member of the Indigenous Team of the Century, has, however, already started contemplating life after football.

"I don't think I've got the coaching bug; I don't think it's in me," he said. "I enjoy working with the indigenous communities and I'm doing some study at the moment so hopefully I've got a few areas where I'm covered."

McLeod believes the present system makes it easier for indigenous players to enter the AFL.

"It is a lot easier, but there's still a way to go in regards to cultural awareness and clubs being up to speed with where the sort of things Aboriginal people face and what they are up against," he said.

From what I've seen on TV from over here Bassett does his job admirably. He is often involved in the clearances from tight situations deep in the backline, as well as being the go to man further out from goal when players chip back or across the ground to him. He plays that role very reliably.

My only concern would be his struggling for fitness at times this year, but that may be something that is now resolved.

I agree about Biglands - I can't see him coming up now after so long.

I can imagine Bassett to be extremely frustrating to opposing teams, and their fans, but that is his role in the team...
I can understand why they want to discredit him and get rid of him.

Earlier in the season, when he was playing but obviously unfit, I thought he should have been replaced until he was fit, and wondered whether he could play on next season, but he does seem to have bounced back recently.
