List Changes 2009

Thought we might start pondering next years list as it seems Choco has written off the remainder of this season and will soon start making some changes to the XX11 to see who is worth another year on the list.

Who do you think will be delisted?

Not knowing who is still in contract for next year I think the following players will go if they do not prove themselves in the coming weeks;

Damon White
Nathan Lonie
Fabian Deluca

With the likes of the following put up for trade;

Greg Bentley
Jacob Surjan
Danyl Pearce

and finally I hate to say it but retirement pressure put on;

Michael Wilson

HB, where do you see Nick Lower in all of this, how highly do they rate him down at Alberton, keeper, trade material (Kanagroos maybe?) or De-listing?

FWIW I reckon you're right with your other calls, except I'd imagine Lonie is a goner regardless of what happens for the remainder of the season.

Nick Lower got his chance against the Cats and I think he will stay in for a few weeks at least while they have a look at him.

Lower and Matt Thomas probably going for the same mid size defender spot so they may make a call on one of them depending on how long Wilbur Wilson has got to go before he gives it away.

Think that Surjan and Pierce would be the sort of trades that could come and bite you in the arse

I'd be happy enough if the Crows had a look at what a bit of development work could do with Surjan, or even maybe Damon White as a back up defender if he came cheaply.

I agree with those players, except Surjan and Deluca. Surjan is a very underrated player, maybe a little out of form at the minute, but certainly a keeper. Deluca has to stay for the main reason we have no one else to take over the rucking duties if Lade or Brogan go down.

Without looking at the list too closely right now Im not too sure who would replace them on the list. I agree with the trading of Peirce. His form this year has been poor, and his disposal and consistant turnovers are really hurting us.

The crows need to look at a damon white. And develop him if they can into the missing forward link.

Id be happy with the crows picking up surgan and thompson, to hard, already made footballers! Not sure why surgan isnt a fav of williams, seemed to be a couple of years ago, good tough footballer in my mind! Those two players could add to the depth on the list that the crows are trying to form.

Wouldnt pick up damon white thou, the crows have got to many players like him and would rather see them develop walker, tippet, and sellar, players like that!

Surjan is a handy squad player (filling for injuries etc) and has a crack but simply just isnt good enough. Compare him to say Geelongs back 4 smaller players (half back / back pocket) in Mackie, Enright, Milburn, Harley.

Thats the standard port have to aim for and Surjan has been given 2 seasons and i dont think he can reach the level of those players. better to try Logan, Lower etc to see what they offer.

Cripes swooper. You know how long we had to wait for Mackie to deliver? It was a darn sight longer than two seasons I can tell you.

Time needs to be spent on DeLuca and Giles to see what they can offer post Lade and then Brogan.

I am as frustrated as anyone in regards to Damon White,but I raise the question,who would get dropped for him to come into the team? (Wedgie will say Tredrea :wink: )

In the front half,the talls of Westhoff,Tredrea,Lade and Motlop who plays a little taller than what he actually is are there.I know Westhoff has been dropped but his spot in the team is there long term.

In the back half,Chaplin,Pettigrew,Thurstand and Carlilse fill the needs for the talls,could you argue any of them should be dropped on form alone? I could argue a case for keeping all for if required.So that,IMO,leaves very little room for Damon White to play.
If it is anywhere it is in the front half but he has never really grasped the opportunities he has had over the years.

Lonie would be gone,Pearce could be possible trade bait,Surjan needs more game time,along with Bentley and Thompson.

I like Stewart,Boak (very good one in time I feel),Carlisle is sound and getting better and Gray could get some more time in the middle as he has shown glimpses over the last few weeks at the clearances.

Damion White needs to be given another go, and play accross the CHF or FF lines because tredders isn't going to last much longer, & after he goes there are no Big Key forwards!

I think Cockshell deserves to be given a chance to show if he can play, we've seen White before and know his limitations already.

Cockshell is an interesting one ... Can do some brilliant things and has good pace for a big fella aswell as a reasonable vertical leap, but sadly makes as many elementary blunders as he does good things.

Can see him getting better and better every year in the right learning environment, but you have to ask the question of how long he can be kept on a list without being immediately able to contribute on a regular basis?

Big difference between he and Damon White, is you generally know what you'll get from White - Is much more consistent than Cockshell.

Suspect he'll get another season but that would most likely be do or die for him.

the only thing with Cockshell is that he isnt a natural footballer..... he has only played the game for a few years(good tennis player) when norwood saw him play a knock out school football game for Golden Grove and saw a tall athlete there eyes lit up. IMO dont think he has what it takes to play AFL as i think he has reached his football potential

Hard to argue with that mate ... Certainly is the prime example of an Athlete as opposed to natural footballer ... Whether he has further improvement in him remains to be seen - I personally think he does, but whether there's enough improvement is another matter entirely.

I would rather have a footballer in my team than an athlete anyday
