Port are hoping that this type deal will put South Australia on the map in the Chinese market

One of the major hopes they see with the deal is that this will help the South Australian government which then in turn puts them in a better position here in SA as well

So fairfax media is reporting Port has said it wont give up a home game so which team you think they'll butter up with loads of cash to sacrifice one of their home games for the journey? Brisbane? St Kilda? Carlton? Melbourne?

Correct. Port are the club who signed the deal. They are not being scheduled to play there like they have been in the past ie Northern Territory.

I would say the reason McLachlan was there ( beyond the junket value ) would have been that the AFL would be dipping some money into the development programs in China. They love the thought of taking our game to the world and with $2.508bn to spend in the next 5 years they'll be keen to get in on the action too.

I would say much of this income stream will go straight into paying off our debt, get that under control and I am sure Koch will be keen on doing this. If we can get that debt down ASAP the better.

I'm not sure whufc is right on the money as far as the government of the state goes, I think they're probably riding on our coat tails to some extent, I don't think we've really done this to help Jay and Co. out and I would think the deal has been more about Port Adelaide and the game going into China and the benefits for the state are a bonus. What the government does for us is pretty insignificant I would have thought.

Koch would most certainly be using it as a tool to network SA businesses with China, but lets be straight here, we don;t really need more people going to China and bringing back containers full of shit to flood our market with. You think the government want that?

Even though they have been Melbourne home games Port have been very willing participants. Melbourne get the financial reward and Port get another opportunity to spread the work of the community program further into the North. Win/win. Well, someone has to lose the game...( SAY NOTHING! )

The AFL and Port obviously needed the support of the government to have a home and away game played in the world’s most populous country, where Port have formed a lucrative arrangement with a Chinese property developer, Gui Goujie, who is pouring millions into Port Adelaide over the next three years through his company, Shanghai Cred.

Yep and they see the growth of Power Community which many of these grants and funds will go to is the way to becoming the biggest supported club in SA and then Australia which is their aim

They have even changed their mission statement slightly to state they exsist to win premierships and do their community proud!!!

Sheedy has thrown our hat into the ring for the game and has apparantly said we are willing to cough up a home game.
Would think it will more than likely be given to a club struggling $ wise.

It will be played in one of the mid season break rounds, so yes, likely a 10-12 day break after the game.

Take it you havnt been to China in May, June or July?
It's friggin hot and terrible.
Would have to play it early in the season and schedule a bye around it. Definately can work though

Is there the potential to play a May/June/July night game coinciding with the bye rounds? There is only a couple of hours time difference.

Logistics will come heavily into play here. They have had international turf specialists inspecting olympic(?) stadiums today to see if they can lay turf in 12 months which will be safe enough for elite sport.

As an elite athlete, I would be a bit concerned about playing in China with the pollution. Would be interesting to see the affect on the players the following week (or match).
