Has to be part of a 2 or 3 trade strategy I reckon. There's news that Adelaide are close to a deal with GWS to get a pick in the 17 yr old mini draft.

Still reckon Adelaide need to come out of the trade period with an established player as well though.

Not that I know a great deal about the 17 year olds in this mini draft but why in the same year that 2 Crows players want to return to there home states why are we looking at getting Crouch in the mini draft and risk the go home factor all over again? Wouldnt Kennedy from SA be a better selection?

Also why dont we use the draft pick we got for Gunston to try get Ebert? I have not found anywhere that Ebert has said he only wants to go to Port, just that he wants to come back to SA.

You draft best available, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Ebert is average.

But hasn't it been said that not much splits the top 3 17 year olds, Kennedy being one of them? Or am I off the mark here.

On Ebert, Thompson wasnt setting the world on fire when we got him and he has turned out good for us.

Ebert's Manager has said Port is the only club that he is willing to go to.

Adelaide are still targeting Cale Hooker and Tom Lynch, as well as Brent Renouf.

Adelaide's suggestions for player swaps with Sydney for Armstrong have been rejected by Sydney meaning this will be a 3 way deal or involve picks only. Possibly Seaby to St Kilda, Armstrong to Sydney, Lynch to Adelaide?? Remembering Sydney have Mumford, Pyke, Seaby, White and Currie as ruckmen on their list.

Looking like the Crows may get pick 37 and a player from Richmond or possibly the compensation pick as well as a player. No idea who the player is, I assume Ben Nason, although Richmond have said there has been very little interest in Dan Connors so unlikely he will be heading across.

Has been talk that Tippett may be on the table for Brisbane's compensation pick (Rischitelli) and Freo's compensation pick (Palmer) which will form part of the Mitch Clark trade.

Crows and GWS to confirm tomorrow morning Adelaide has received pick 2 in the mini draft in exchange for compensation pick (Davis) and a swap of picks 10 and 14 this year.

The thought that AFC must only get SA based players is miss guided purely because this year 2 have wanted to go home(1 for opportunity). I believe the last player to wanted a trade home was Stenglein? how many years ago? and Johnson before that. Not a bad record of player retention.

As was said, you must take the best player available in the draft depending on what type you require.

Noble last night sounded like they had a clear plan and the Gunston trade would lead into better outcomes of other trades.

if we secure the 2 pick in the mini draft, i would keep 14 then on trade 24 and 37 for a Hooker or pick 37 for Lynch

Agree with calls to draft the best player regardless. Adelaide should select Crouch today in the mini draft. The kid can play out next year in Victoria and then come over for the 2013 season. He sounds like he'd be ready made to slot straight in as soon as he turns 18.

Depends where AFC see our midfield going FWD and our small FWD stocks. If they reckon we need a white Cyril Rioli then Kennedy it is.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out

I agree with taking best player available, I guess the point I was trying to make was its hard enough to pick the best player in the normal draft but we are intent on taking a 17 year old a year earlier. How many times have you heard a kid when he is 17 will be a star only to have a poor year the next season? Its a risk. I was thinking if we took a local in this mini draft couldnt they then spend the next 12 months working in the Crows facilities, with the Crows staff and players? Wouldnt this give the kid a massive advantage to be ready for AFL almost immediately?

Yes indeedy. Personally I think our midfield is where it's needed more and most papers are reporting this morning that Crouch is all but an Adelaide player already.

Really enjoying seeing the Crows get active in Trade week... we seem to be linked with everyone.

With the compromised drafts it really is the best way to secure talent, including young talent (17 yr olds)

Much better than the days of the "we finished 12th, our list is fine though, why bother showing up to trade week" attitude

Yes, I'm liking the way they are being so aggressive. Says something about the mindset of the new coaching team perhaps?

Particulary like the way they are trying to get involved as much as possible with GWS to offset the impact of the compromised draft this year.

My thinking is that if the crows can get this second pick in the Mini Draft then they may try and on-trade it to Carlton for Gibbs or another big name SA player from any Vic club? That could be why they are not worried about the go home factor from the young 17 year old from Vic. Unless of course they pic up Kennedy.

Can someone shed some light about the compensation picks Adelaide is trading for.
Does this mean that they can use them next year in a better talent draft straight after where they finish(draft order) next year.

I was thinking its a great way to look at it because of the draft not being comprimised.
It just means they have to bomb out next year, finish as low as they can then use the better picks.

Yes, you've got it right. I believe they have 3 or 4 years after to use them after they have been issued. So you can just bank them and wait for a 'superdraft' (as next years is being billed) and stock up on quality players.

Up to 2015 Draft, with the next 2 expected to be especially strong, and uncompromised.

The concerns about the 17 year olds not being as good a year on doesnt usually relate as much to midfielders, its been sliders such as Butcher and Sellar who were touted as top 2 picks as 17 year olds before mediocre years.

These guys are also only a few months too young to be available for this draft, where they would have been top 5 picks (Omeara and Crouch) according to Kevin Sheehan.
