A few workmates and I went down and watched the Power train and my god i couldn't believe my eyes. The standard of training was a disgrace there was no effort what so ever, no intent to see at all it even came to a stage that Brad Ebert turned to one of the younger lads i didnt see who and actually who and said 'At least have a crack'.

Now i stick up for us at work time after time but after seeing what i saw in front of my work mates my argument went straight out the window.

Could only count a few that really were putting in by far the best on the track was Brett Ebert then Brad Ebert, Broadbent, Hartlett, Schultz and Kane Cornes then rest were a disgrace they were only there cause that had to be!

Head lined by Roden I've been carrying on at work why he is not in the team well watching them train i can now see why he just did'nt give a f@#k and as for Pfeiffer my god he is the worst kick at the club.

Josh Carr should still play he out trained most of them
you've gota keep on keep'n on .........

PORT ADELAIDE POWER 2012

Postby RustyCage » Fri Aug 10, 2012 9:32 am

It's no coincidence that the players you named as having trained well are also the players that have played well this year too.

I've seen training a few times in the last couple of years and each time have noticed how it was a half arsed effort every time

Hey all first post on here so I'll try and make it a good one.

I think now is a good time to start looking at our list. I think we have a few that need to be cut loose. In my opinion the following should be gone

phillips
salter
Hitchcock
davenport?

We should also look at a possible trade for westhoff for perhaps picks.

Anyway just something to tall about

Welcome to the forum, PP.

Davenport was delisted last year, but you are probably right with the other 3, akthough a new coach may see something in Salter and keep him on.

Its disappointing that Hitchcock hasn't been able to show much the last couple of years. He showed a little bit of promise early on.

I suspect any potential/possible trades concerning Chaplin and Boak may be significant in terms of our trading and general list management at season's end.

What about Rodan? I think he is handy but he flows out of the game to much.

I think with boak and chaplin we should look hard at trying to get high draft picks. Most probably by complex 3 or 4 way trades because it would be nice to be able to draft toumpass??? (spellng) if we could.

Toumpas is going to be a great player for whoever picks him up.

Personally i would like port to draft a KPF, someone to help out Jay Schulz and take over when he retires. Hopefully we can also get John Butcher up and running next season and tap into potential we know he has!

Yeah, I'm not sure about Rodan. I don't think Primus rated the defensive side to his game, now that he's not there anymore, Rodan may have a greater chance of being retained. I'd probably be inclined to give him another year.

Toumpas would be handy, although I believe there is an injury cloud over him. If there is a decent key forward available, I'd also like to see us go for one of these. If Boak and Chaplin both go, and we get multiple picks in the top 10, we may possibly be able to go for a midfielder and a key forward.

I wouldn't mind seeing Trengrove have a go up forward and Westhoff in the back lines. Just got the feeling that Jackson will be a good forward and we know the inconsitency involved in Westhoff's game, but he could become a good backman perhaps?

Just a thought.

Perhaps it is worth a try but he really needs to harden up a bit and put some bulk on.

Trengrove might go alright up forward. Worth a try.

I do like the look of Blee though, has a crack and did do a couple of good things on the weekend. While I will be the first to admit that he was outsized by Darling and Co. I think we have a bit to work with there.

While I think we are in a bad spot at the moment, I dont feel our list is horrifically bad. I think we have a good age profile to work with. We lack some serious polish and thats what the next coach will need to work on as well as general strengh and fitness, but I reckon we will come good at some stage.

Wingard played well on the weekend and I believe he got the Rising Star nomination.

Hope he has a big pre season, becomes really fit, and has a big 2013.

A midfield of Boak, Ebert, Wingard, Hartlett and anyone else decent we pick up isn't looking too bad in the years to come

It does look ok on paper, but they will need to live up to their potential, and we will also require players like Broadbent and Moore to step up so there's a bit of depth.

We also desperately need some decent forward options given the ongoing doubts about Butcher's fitness and durability.

should be able to look forward to next season with some degree of optimism.
The key will be as it is with most clubs is keeping the squad fit and available.
Looking back on the season, the regular absence of many of Ports best players took its toll, Schultz, Boak, Hartlett, Gray etc.
If they consistently get close to their best team on the park each week and improve their skill level by 5 - 10% which will result in less turnovers they could possibly press for a finals spot which will be a good result.

That is the key from my point of view... along with a better level of fitness - which has improved a lot since 2011... the turnovers by foot were the glaring difference between Port and any other decent side... better disposal by foot ensures the hard running forward is rewarded and the running back after a turnover is reduced. Enabling players to be more confident in their convictions and commit to going forward, too many times we were hesistant to commit in running forward knowing that it would be turned over and would be caught out of position. Vicious circle resulted in when it was kicked forward a 2 on 4 resulted and a turnover killed us.

Need to snare Moloney, and maybe another developed mature player this year in the free agency/trade period.

Any news on how Gray is going with his injury? and when he would be due back??

We have been linked to Maloney, Monfreis and Jordon Russell from what I have heard. But genearlly I think we need to turn over some crap and develop the kids like Wingard, Moore, Broadbent, Jacbos, Blee and Young.

You look at the midfield group at the moment of Cornes, Dom, Brad Ebert, Boak, Hartlett, Wingard, Broadbent and probably Moore and Gray as well and thre is a lot of good young talent with a couple of old stagers as well. But its a good start. Just need to get our ruckmen with a good preseason into them. Lobbe has improved a lot this season. Redden is making good progress and Renouf is good valve if he can get himself right.

Well Salopek will walk for nothing. Jacobs and Rodan want a trade out. Which may provide us with the option to get etiher some picks or a player. Chaplin I think we actually get something like a 3rd round pick as he is a restricted(?) free agent.

Also I have heard that Pearce wants out as well, preferably to a Victorian club.

Delist, well lets start with:

Phillips
Hitchcock
Salter
Banner (?)

Still that could be up to 8-9 changes depending on what the club thinks of Banner. I would have like to look at trading Westhoff as well but we seem to be having a massive list turn over now

Also I have heard that we might be able to snag Hayden Jolly from the Gold Coast as he is looking to come home.
But also we might be in with a shot of looking at Monfries. He is apparently on his way to Melbourne, but perhaps not. Also we are still in the mix for Maloney. With the $$$ being used for the Goddard deal, Essendon is stretched at the moment.
