I always thought people went to the cricket and footy to watch the sport being played. Plenty of other places you can go to look at the hills and churches.

Spot on.
In theory I've got nothing against them playing some afl at the Adelaide Oval, the problem is what they are proposing isn't the Adelaide Oval.

Haha someone call the concrete police.
Looks more likely to happen.
Other states are weighing in and think we are crazy to miss an opportunity for development funded by government.

The only decision is when 2014..15..16..??

The seats would be more uncomfortable than the old footy park seats though.

What about a blow up eastern grandstand, then it could just be deflated so the 500 people who got to shield games can still see the hills.

What's happened here? RC and I take a breather and the thread turns into a discussion about lego?!

RC - mate, we may need to fire up again.

Greg Howe becoming the unofficial spokesperson of the organised NO vote is an interesting development. Anyone know much about him other than he is a partner in a local legal firm? He was on 5AA the other night but I had to turn the radio off early.

Adelaide needs this to succeed for the city!
This will bring life, entertainment, excitement to the heart of Adelaide! Tourists will flock here, Port will sell out games, cricket 20/20 will be massive!!
Businesses will prosper, precints will get bigger, patrons will get used to the idea and flock in their thousands.
The spectators who go to AAMi are older in demographic. Footy in the city will bring back the 18-30 year olds in big numbers.
few drinks with your mates, dinner, walk accross the bridge soaking in the atmosphere and then to the game. That would be perfect, just look at our neighbours at how they enjoy their own city.

Adelaide needs this stadium or we WILL be a laughing stock!!
lets move forward and look at this positively and stop being so pesimistic. There is NO other feasible option, Sports lovers will lose this money. SACA and AFL in this state will all continue to struggle if this falls over, but worse we will continue to be laughed at from a far.

Not negotiable with the SANFL are:

DROP-IN pitches at Adelaide Oval.
"That is resolved with cricket, way back - there will be lift-in, lift-out pitches," said Whicker.

NO funding by the SANFL of potential cost blow-outs.
"We are very clear on two issues," said Whicker. "The State Government will not put in more money - and categorically the SANFL will not contribute one cent to this project.

"Any gaps is a matter the Stadium Management Authority will have to work through, perhaps with private investors in commercial ventures such as the carpark. But we will not compromise football in this project."

Can I just point out someone has yet again categorically LIED to us all.

What a terrific job he is doing.

As has been discussed elsewhere I just can't understand why the SANFL and SACA are so confident the vote will get through the SACA members. I hope it does and I'll vote yes as will all the SACA members I know but many won't and to get the 75% required is a lot.

Gingernuts wrote:This seems the be a really divisive issue, and I can't really understand why. To me it seems a win for all parties concerned.

I don't want this as a Cricket fan, an AFL fan, or a Crows fan. I want this as a sport loving South Australian. I want to see the most beautiful ground in the country (possibly the world) showcased across Australia and the world more than just a couple of times a year.

I want to have a chance to visit this wonderful stadium and watch top level professional sport more than just a few times a year. I want to make the trip to the ground a real experience, dining out and then walking across the Torrens and through our beautiful parklands.

I'm not into the politics. I'm not a SACA hater, or a Labor lover. I just want this to happen because I'm a proud South Aussie and I want to feel that pride every second weekend (or more often!) as I take in the beauty of our fantastic city and it's oval.

This project shows more vision than any city centre project ever proposed during my lifetime, and it excites me. I just hope people put their politics and personal interests aside and really consider the bigger picture. Instead of being consumed by 'worse case' senarios and conspiracy theories, focus on the 'best case' and the untold potential and opportunities this development could provide.

We could squabble about membership fees, or 5 vs 7 months usage, or drop in pitches. Or we could band together, build this stadium, and then sit back and share a few beers whilst taking in our favourite games at the best sporting arena in the world. The choice is as simple as that IMO.

Sadly you also have been conned by the glossy brochures!!!

I can see it now - $50 to park your car because of the cost blow outs.
