great news, esp the line footy and no more bloody blackspots.

This is the sort of agreement that should have been in place 5 years ago though

Just got rid of my Foxtel, looks like a bad move. I'd expect the subscription to go from $55 anywhere up to about $80 for the same package next year

Kim Williams was very evasive about possible increases in subscription prices.
I'd say they'll keep it the same for as long as possible, getting more people to sign up and then gradually ramp it up (normally goes up by CPI anyway).

I heard a media report stating that it will cost $15-$20 to get the Foxsports AFL package ontop of the basic package. You wont be able to get just footy package, must get basic + footy

You've never been able to just sign up just for the sports or certain individual channels.
Williams was asked about the costs at the press conference and his answer was $44 (basic) + $16 (sports, which includes the footy channel).

I've got the sports package on but no basic package channels. I got a free upgrade to an iQ2 thrown in too. So pay $29 a month in total for all the FTA channels (obviously) plus the sports package. How'd I get that? When your contract expires just ask to be put through to disconnections ;)

It's all good for this FOX subscriber. The all AFL channel is back and no more relying on 'who gives a shit about footy' FTA coverage up here in Qld. In other good news one less network covering the sport means that some of the less gifted commentators may soon find themselves out of a job.

Unfortunately though we will still be stuck with Dwayne Russel, Bruce McAvaney and the monumentally overrated Brian Thickhead Taylor. No more Tim Lane, Quarterbrian or Walls is a big tick though.

I like Brian Taylor. At least he's honest. Liam Pickering is a dud though. Watch Tim Lane and Quatermain pop up somewhere.

So minimum cost is $60 per month if I read right?

Can't wait for Fox to pump up the price of the "footy" subscription when this starts.

Worst commentator IMO. He was shocking last night. I don't even know if he was watching the same match.

I wouldn't be popping champagne corks if you think you've seen the back of some commentators ... they may change employers :D

Of course they will, FOX have 9 games to cover and ( Sat night 2 games, Sat'day 2 games ) 4 of them clash, so, they potentially need 7 or 8 commentary 'teams', 4-5 on each ( 2/3 commentators, 'special' comments, boundary rider ) they will need at least 30 commentators on the books.

Lane is still with ABC radio isn't he? That might only be for cricket so I'm sure they can fit him back into their footy lineup if he isn't already.

Be suprised if Quarters moved networks, been with TEN for about 25 years, they can move him back into reporting on Sports Tonight or something. Huddo does other stuff (swimming etc) plus calls on radio so doubt he'll be leaving TEN. Walls was with 7 before they lost the rights but hope he isn't wanted.

Be good if another great radio caller was 'found' ala Clinton Grybas.

Sigh. I was so happy for a moment there. Surely there has to be someone out there who has played the game recently who has a friggin clue. Surely the time has come to call time on dinosaurs like Robert ******* Walls. Surely it's time Dennis Commetti stopped parodying himself and McAvaney returned to calling the action instead of barring up over his favourite players in truly disturbing style. Surely it's time for commentators to realise that we aren't all completely brain dead and to stop telling us that the Crows were going to come back when Freo had the game in the bag. Surely it's time for Dwayne Russell to call what's happening rather than what he thinks will happen. Surely it's time for those down the ground angles to be dispensed with.

Why is it that with all the technology that is currently available the football coverage of this multi million dollar sport is still absolutley crap. I can't understand how Kelli Underwood got such a bad rap compared with the multitude of idiots that remain on our sets.

More fresh talent please and bye bye Carlton idiots especially. The worst commentators of the lot by a country mile. The 20th Century is over boys.

Good work. Not surprised actually -you're not the first case I've heard of people negotiating better deals on threat of disconnection. Don't think new subscribers would find it quite so easy though.

Can you point out where I'm defending them ?

Also why don't you mention the other myriad of clubs the other commentators follow ?
