Talk on the national game

I reckon he provides great entertainment on the field, whether he be having an on or off day so I'd be sad to see him gone from the game .. However, if that were to happen you certainly couldn't point the finger at Brisbane, Carlton, the AFL or Channel 9 as being the prime fault, that lays squarely at the feet of Fev himself.

Exactly ... all he needs to do now is recognise that himself.

There's a good chance he does, but is still too stupid to behave accordingly I'd say.

Also loved Aker's comments ... just make sure Fev gets a root he says and all will be fine. :D

It's not that he's too stupid to behave. He's too stupid to realise that he really has mental issues and that he cant just cut loose on the sauce to let off some steam. He needs a psychiatrist if he hasn't finally got one this time.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Even worse is how Brisbane has had to trade players last year, and lose a couple more this year due to the amount of money Fevola is on.Maybe Voss thought he could be like Paul Roos and Fevola could behave himself.Big risk that hasnt paid off and for a club already in debt it may take along time to turn things around.

Probably applicable to 95% of the male population, but time will tell with Fev
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

It just goes from bad to worse again for Brisbane now, with Albert Proud arrested Saturday night for an alleged assault on a police officer.

Michael Voss appears to be a great leader of men, with an ability to take charge of a situation. Provided its not the men he is employed to look after and take charge of.

Lesson 1 on "How to miss the point" by Drop Bear...

DB, I think what, no, I know what CK was saying. Voss has had ample time to instill the type of standards he played with and now expects his group to adhere to.

Voss did not "..let Proud get arrested", but moreso has allowed the group to drift into dangerous territory despite ( I would imagine ) his most feverish of efforts.

Voss would have tried, Proud is the one that has failed.

Booney hit the nail completely on the head with picking what I was saying. Michael Voss is entering his third year in the job - MORE than enough time for him to have stamped his authority, accepted standards and boundaries and philosophies on the playing group. Bear in mind also, he has captained, and played with, many of these players. He is not new to them, so they should have full awareness of what he expects and demands as standards.

Brisbane are, currently, well and truly in the lower half of the AFL for off-field behaviour of players and overall performance of the squad. Leaving aside for a minute their trading record under Voss, the club is on a downward spiral that is not showing any real signs of abating. That will not be helped by senior players spending time in lock-ups for not meeting generally accepted behavioural standards. One glitch is isolated. It stopped being isolated there a fair while ago.

When I go out a smash some cans and make an a$$ of myself i certainly am not thinking..

"I wonder what my boss would think of me?"

Responsability lies with the individual not the club.

Exhibit A

Ben Cousins under Johnny Worsfold - premiership

Exhibit B

Wayne Carey under Denis Pagan - premierships

You're right there CK, but one only needs to look back a few years at Geelong and how they handled Steve Johnson. Hopefully the Lions can learn something from this.

I wouldnt think Steve Johnson was tarred with the same brush as Fev. I still remember years ago watching a doco on the AFL draft and the two featured players were Adam Ramanaskaus and Fev . And there were question marks over Fev then for the way he conducted himself at that stage as a 17 year old. Carrying on like an idiot on the field , mouthing off, generally being un disciplined . Clearly he is yet to grow up ...... absolute moron if you ask me with that ability basically throwing an afl career away and with that losing ya wife and every penny you have made from the game. No one to blame but himself

Was an excellent doco that one, also included Des Headland probably more than the other two. Des turned up to a Brisbane interview in a Dockers shirt, didn't work!!

I remember the doco you are referring to and IIRC, there were three players featured, the other being Des Headland.

Fev came across as a prat then but IMO, it's incumbent on the clubs to identify that and work with the player if they wish to take advantage of their football abilities. Players with obvious issues like Fev should be made to work with counsellors or mentors on an ongoing basis or be let go there and then. Recruiters get their pants all wet just watching these young blokes play the game without taking into consideration the potential disruption that someone with mental issues is going to bring to the club.

Voss has even less excuse not to have a plan in place, there's years of behaviour at league level to base an assessment on, he wasn't a raw kid when he rocked up at the Lions.
