Like it or not, the bump TO THE HEAD is dead, accident or not.

I agree, if you bump and get the head you go, simple.

Or it seems you could run away from the contest. ;)

In real footy "yes".

In comparison to where the bar has been set over recent years "no".

I saw the bump and I reckon Gray could of easily decided to tackle rather than go for the bump. Easily.

At least we know what the AFL want you to do, you can tackle or you can run the opposite direction.

Can't wait 'til I hear or see a coach say that to a player.

"Yeah, Paddy, listen mate, you've got to consider the outcomes when going to the contest, you can run the opposite direction mate, we want you out here next week you know?"

If he chose to tackle, what is the perceived outcome?

More like a busted shoulder or head clash because he’s certainly in no position to be making a proper tackle.

Unless he done a Gibbs-like tackle.

So you are expecting someone to deliberately give away a free kick instead of going for the footy?
Gray had 1.3 seconds (or whatever the exact amount was that Port used in their defence) to decide what to do from when it became apparent McGovern would get to the footy first. I agree that the bump is dead, but i can't fathom how people expect him in that time to know his best course of action when everyone's first instinct is to brace for contact. Andrew Woods just looks like an absolute clown with what he was saying & the options Gray (apparantley) had. Any coach would rip their players to shreds if they pulled out of a contest like he suggested.

On the Kornes comments, he has some merit with what he said. Simpson said in his presser McGovern was fine and would have played on if it was a proper game. Then the medical report goes to the tribunal saying he had concussion and is still suffering. So what is it??

The medical report said he was still suffering from the collision and it was unclear how many days training he would miss, differs to Simpson saying if it was a game proper he would have been fine to come back on, sounds negligent.

*Edit*

He's not listed as injured on the Weagles Website.

Players have been told and are well aware of the penalties of colliding with a player (either with intent or not) to the head. Unfortunately this is where footy is going and the players need to be aware of this when contesting to a 50/50 footy.

But Kane Cornes said it so it's practically a nazi salute to some.

Since when is Simpson a doctor?

What he says as a throwaway comment is different to what the doctors say.

And certainly makes more sense than west coast deliberately embellishing the medical report

I'm not sure what impact the Eagles medical report has in all of this, anyway.
You can't bump a player in the head. It's pretty much an automatic suspension these days and he got one game.
He was probably always going to do so.

We live in a society where someone has to be blamed, people generally do not take responsibility for their own actions

Must say Port have said nothing publicly about West Coast

If Port are gonna waste money like that ($10,000 for the appeal). Can they give that to me next time they try to appeal a bump to the head suspension??
