Surely if the AFL want to give them (another) leg up then a priority pick should be after their first pick in the draft? So, #3.

I think they now have four picks in the top 30, watch them trade them for another sack of potatoes like Walker, Bell or Bastinac.

Also wonder if the club wasn't basically run by the AFL would they have got a priority pick?

Melbourne had far worse seasons than Brisbane and didn't get a PP

Interesting to see which clubs have had priority picks & who they picked

Year Pick Player Club
1997 1 Travis Johnstone Melbourne
1999 1 Josh Fraser Collingwood
1999 2 Paul Hasleby Fremantle
2000 1 Nick Riewoldt St Kilda
2001 2 Luke Ball St Kilda
2001 3 Chris Judd West Coast
2003 1 Adam Cooney Western Bulldogs
2003 2 Andrew Walker Carlton
2003 3 Colin Sylvia Melbourne
2004 1 Brett Deledio Richmond
2004 2 Jarryd Roughead Hawthorn
2004 3 Ryan Griffen Western Bulldogs
2005 1 Marc Murphy Carlton
2005 2 Dale Thomas Collingwood
2005 3 Xavier Ellis Hawthorn
2007 1 Matthew Kreuzer Carlton
2009 1 Tom Scully Melbourne

Is Buckley in a panic? I thought their list is growing quite nicely atm, going to take another couple of years but plenty of upside.

Getting Sam Reid would be a good get for them. I can understand why they are looking at it.

Will keep his brother company in the medical room.
Both have had a terrible run with injuries and both are good players when they are on the park.

Wow, he looked certain to leave.

Guess the lure of success would make you take a bit less cash

Surely he would be advised to go the Hawks by his family/management....the hype here in Adelaide would be unbearable for the kid, esp as he isn't a 1st or 2nd rounder.

Sam has shown patches of how good he could be! I reckon he has more upside than his bro if he can remain injury few!

I can't see horse getting rid of him, loves him

Frees up a lot of salary cap space which is needed. Has given the Swans no value for money

From MMM facebook

Adelaide veteran Scott Thompson will move on to the next stage of his career by starting a coaching apprenticeship.
Thompson will begin a role as a player-coach at the Crows next season as his AFL career winds to a close, making way for younger players.
It is the first step in what looms as a coaching career for the 32-year-old, as reported in The Advertiser.
Thompson's manager Michael Doughty confirmed the news.
"It will be a little different for 'Thommo' - in some capacity he will be playing and the role will have coaching to it as well," he said.
"He won't be guaranteed his spot in the 22 - and 'Thommo' is aware other players have to be given opportunities. But Scott will be there to drive (playing and training) standards.
"And he also will move on to the next stage - coaching."

Wonder if that is a way of paying Thompson little next season but being paid a lot as an assistant coach

Wigg also re-signed for 1 year

Leppa as insurance? That's like laying down a concrete slab incase you fall off a ladder.
