My understanding is that Longmuir has great credentials and I think it's a smart move selecting someone with a Freo background considering they've won less premierships than Marlion Pickett

The Dockers had nobody else in mind but Justin Longmuir. They were just waiting for his commitments with Collingwood to finish. Peter Sumich was interviewed but it was all a charade. There was no need for him to put out a statement. It just makes him look naive.

Although he never played for the Dockers, Sumich has more of a Fremantle background than Longmuir. Personally I think he'd have been a better choice. The Dockers lack an identity with the city of Fremantle and Suma would have given this plus massive football experience.
