I don't want to hijack your thread here Matte G. But here is my quick take on the round 5 game.

The Hawks started slowly, as we tend to do from time to time. I reckon that Stratton was playing a little too high up the ground in the 1st Quarter, that allowed that "out the back action" to Betts. My take was he was told to get back to him, and as a result Betts while not totally shut down, had his influence taken away. Thought the Crows mids probably won the day, despite the Hawks centre clearance being 21-12. The key for me was our pressure & tackling. Hawthorn laid 20 more tackles on the night... the kicker being we had 20 MORE in our forward 50.

OK - now for the Elephant in the room. The umpires, did not have a great night, lets be honest. Not exactly a first in the history of footy though is it. It's also not the first time, or probably the last, that we will see the umps "put the whistle" away in the last minute of a tight finish. Was Smith holding the ball - maybe, did Poppy get a push in the back - maybe (I thought he marked that one anyway). Were Hawthorn fortunate to win, yes possibly. Have the crows improved - yes (said with the taste of vomit in my mouth).
The Hawks have a heap of room for improvement as the season unfolds. To be 4-1 at this point has been a huge bonus. Hill looked like he really needed the run, he will only get better. Can't wait for Roughy to be back by mid season, then I reckon we will be back at our absolute best.

Feel free Corona Man- I was on a flight home from Brissy Friday night so all I heard was the last quarter call on the drive home and the last 5 mins when I got home.

Have recorded the game so will have a look. Cant believe people are dirty on the Poppy free, Smith dead set fell in his back. The holding the ball at the end- possibly would have been paid if the ump was on the other side of the pack.

We couldn't afford a slow start again, yet it seems that's what we did. GWS will be a significant challenge, at least we have a greater than 6 day break this week (We've gone 6-7-6-6 so far- the toughest run of all teams rest wise)

Gotta admit, some of those "Hawthorn Free Kick" Memes getting around are pretty bloody funny. Noone wins or loses a game because of umpires, and I think most people know that, it just stings late in a game if you feel your team didn't get the rub of the Green.

Scary to think how good the Hawks were last season when it mattered, and that was without the luxury of the early wins they have this season. If they manage players well and avoid any serious injuries, hard to see them not making it 4 on the trot.

GWS are yet to win in Sydney, they have won both their Canberra games though. It's the first game for GWS at Spotless.... for what it's worth. Absolute danger game, and I know you can't win them all. GWS will be confident after flogging the Saints for most of the game. Its also a twilight fixture which works for me on a Saturday, as I have other commitments that makes traditional Saturday timeslots a bit tricky in terms of getting much of a look.

I reckon we have the most 6 day breaks by a fair margin over the whole season too, its something like 8 or 9.
I reckon it might end up being an advantage, the older guys just do less during the week

Hodge to miss 4-6 weeks :

HAWTHORN captain Luke Hodge will miss this Friday night’s clash with Richmond, after sustaining a knee injury in the Hawks’ loss to GWS Giants on Saturday.

Scans revealed Hodge has a lateral meniscus tear, which will see the skipper out of action for four to six weeks.

Hodge has played four games so far in 2016, after missing Round 2 and 3 with a fractured arm.

Two Hawthorn players accused of rape have been cleared.

"Box Hill Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team has concluded an investigation concerning allegations of a sexual assault in Ashwood on 9 October, 2015," Victoria Police said in a statement on Monday morning.

"No charges have been laid in regards to the matter."

The alleged sexual assault took place on October 9 last year in Ashwood and after a lengthy investigation, Victoria Police have opted not to charge the pair.
