Considering SC takes into account the how efficient possessions are, whether a possession won is contested, and doesnt reward ineffective possessions and clangers it gives a pretty good indication of how well a player is going i would have though.

I'm still confused what an effective possession is. I would think it's when you use the ball to your team's advantage, or at least to the detriment of the opposition. I watched Chris Judd win 10 possessions in a quarter of football, completely stuff up 8 of them, and yet they showed an effefctive possession rate of 83%

So therefore I can safely assume my idea of an effective possession differs from others ... or maybe it just depends on who the player is.

If you think Sheahan's is bad, have a look at Rucci's:

Rucci's top 50
CRITERIA - record, importance to team, potential to improve this season, entertainment value to fans.

1. B. Goddard (St Kilda)

2. G Ablett (Gold Coast)

3. C. Judd (Carlton)

4. J. Selwood (Geelong)

5. S. Pendlebury (Collingwood)

6. L. Franklin (Hawthorn)

7. A. Sandilands (Fremantle)

8. N. Riewoldt (St Kilda)

9. L. Hayes (St Kilda)

10. A. Goodes (Sydney)

11. M. Pavlich (Fremantle)

12. P. Chapman (Geelong)

13. D. Swan (Collingwood)

14. M. Murphy (Carlton)

15. A. Didak (Collingwood)

16. L. Hodge (Hawthorn)

17. D. Cox (West Coast)

18. R. Griffen (W Bulldogs)

19. M. Scarlett (Geelong)

20. T. Boak (Port Adelaide)

21. S. Fisher (St Kilda)

25. S. Hill (Fremantle)

26. D. Thomas (Collingwood)

27. J. Riewoldt (Richmond)

28. J. Watson (Essendon)

29. J. Bartel (Geelong)

30. S. Black (Brisbane)

31. J. Bolton (Sydney)

32. A. Cooney (W Bulldogs)

33. B. Vince (Adelaide)

34. J. Brown (Brisbane)

35. B. Hall (W Bulldogs)

36. S. Burgoyne (Hawthorn)

37. N. Dal Santo (St Kilda)

38. S. Johnson (Geelong)

39. C. Rioli (Hawthorn)

40. M. LeCras (West Coast)

41. B. Deledio (Richmond)

42. D. Cross (W Bulldogs)

43. B. Lake (W Bulldogs)

44. J. Frawley (Richmond)

45. K. Tippett (Adelaide)

46. R. Gray (Port Adelaide)

47. G. Johncock (Adelaide)

48. B. Harvey (N Melbourne)

49. M. Boyd (W Bulldogs)

50. D Pearce (Port Adelaide)

JOKER: L. Jurrah (Melbourne)

How can guys like Vince, Gray, Pearce be in the top 100 let alone top 50.

Top 4 look good though. Would probably have Riewoldt at 5 though.

Pendlebury too high. Would have Riewoldt, Hayes, Swan and Hodge ahead of him for sure, possibly a few others.

I guess everyone has a different opinion and we will never all agree.

Gray, Tippett and Vince are picked more on potential (which I can understand, particularly for the first 2 of those), Pearce for entertainment I guess (although he doesn't rate that high for mine).

I loathe Rucci, but I dont think he's actually done too bad here.

While bettering Sheahan isn't a high bar, I agree, seems a better list

Yeah except for his No 1 and some Adelaide and Port players who shouldn't be there I much preferred Rucci's effort, don't say that too often.

I actually think Goddard is the best player in the competition. Who do you think should be there?

Agreed. Most around the country would suggest Sheahans is too Victorian based, Rucci's SA based and if Karl Langdon did one it would be WA based. Cant blame any of them for that.

Goddard at one seems fair to me. He's turned into an absolute jet.

Buddy the best footballer in the comp IMO.
kicked 67 goals from hf line, with 3 blokes on him, in a losing side last year, and most considered an average year. GUN! Doesn't have the luxury of running around half back line and getting handball receives or cheap touches.

Goddard/Ablett brilliant. Riewoldt, Swan, Judd, Selwood, Hodge all top 10 for mine
