Poor Leon, brought in as he was a bystander during the first incident, but was MIA or replaced during the second incident!

Yeah good call.

I wonder if the bloke had gone ahead with it, and been charged with rape, whether also the establishment in which they were being served drinks would also face charges?

Long gone are the days where everybody is responsible for their own decisions and/or actions I guess.

if a man took advantage of a woman who was too drunk to know what she was doing, then this would fall into the broader definition of rape.

What happens if a woman takes advantage of a man who is too drunk to know what he is doing?

Because this happened to me.

Agree.

Hopefully have drummed (Tried hard) it into the head of my teenage daughter that drinking in excess and losing your 'wits' is not only not a good look, but highly dangerous - would hope she doesn't get herself into that state.

I think this article should be read/shown to teenage boys.

Once again its all the blokes fault. What if he was in a worse state than the woman? The woman initiated contact.

You only need to go to the Alma on a satdy night and see the birds throw themselves at the crows boys...... All fun and games until their friends find out and then it 'rape'.

Women want equal opportunity yet less responablility

I am not sexist however, whats good for the goose is good for the, well you know the rest.

There are a lot of other crimes that if you were that drunk you don't know what you are doing you still will be charged. Take responsibility for your actions.

I don't think this article is about blame. It's about presenting a scenario that most of us can relate to and yet may not associate with 'rape' in the first instance.

I think it also opens up wider issues such as binge drinking, and also the sexualisation of modern society.

Anyway, this article is the type of thing that should be read by every young bloke out there who sets themselves to "go out and get pissed and scam an easy one" every Friday and Saturday night. It's never that simple.

I would have thought a fair definition of "Rape" would have to involve the woman [or man] either saying "No" or not being in a fit condition to be able to say "No".
[Like being unconscious or semi-conscious and not be aware what was happening.]
As has been suggested, intoxication does not make you not responsible for deciding to drive or even agreeing to if encouraged.

I agree

I took the article as a cautionery tale which shows just how fine a line it can be. In the author's case his consience gave him a red flag and he stopped. This red flag should be the sign to go / no go for all men in similar situations. Most guys would deep down know when a situation has crossed the line no matter how much they could convince themselves that she was asking for it or that they had a green light.
In between signatures .....

It's one of those things in life too, where you can look at things from different angles after the event .. Some blokes passing up on a situation like that will spend their time thinking "I can't believe I knocked that back" and very few would spend their time thinking about how dramatically it could have damaged theirs and/or someone else's life.
