As I said it is what they are instructed to do no attempt to move it on or another teammate comes in on top to kill the contest (as what happened to petrenko) after the Gwilt decision they pay holding the ball. The rational is to keep the game moving to induce fatigue so the game slows down.
Don't blame the umpires blame the laws committee and the AFL. The umpires are only doing what they are instructed to do.
Not having a go at you gadj but as a Crows follower it find it embarrasing watching a Crows game and listening to the crowd go off at correct umpiring decisions - seriously NFI.
