here lies the problem.
Port got the second license off the SANFL
Port came into comp in 1997. Crows won flag in 1997.
Port is hated by all but Port supporters.
Small membership base because only a port supporter or a crow hater will support Port.
To a few port supporters they are not Port adelaide as no black and white and no magpie.
The AFL is a joke handing out money to the Dogs and roos yet not supporting the power.
All the afl cares about is West sydney and Gold Coast

the AFL should look at shrinking the competition back to 12 clubs.
Brisbane
Sydney
West Coast
Fremantle
Adelaide
Port Power
Geelong
Essendon
Collingwood
Carlton
+ 2 out of- Melbourne, Hawthorn, Footscray, Richmond, North Melbourne & St Kilda.
I'd keep Hawthorn & Richmond

If thats the case Collingwood should go. There'll be a lot less players charged with drink driving, associating with gangland figures, EDDIE.

I'd keep Footescray as you need a western suburbs team - the other one - I dont care but probably St Kilda coz they aren't squeezed in like the others

Sure, Carlton will lend them some of the 2.3 (IIRC) million dollars from the profit they made last year. No worries !

Make sure you get a good interest rate first !

Dutchy is entitled to name North Melbourne the Team of the Millenium, but it will have as much chance of happening as my proposal above ;)

What Port need is more members and more fans at home games (also a sponsor that will pay up helps a bit too). If they dont have the people to fill AAMI then they will lose money, so perhaps play some games at adelaide oval. If they can get a better deal there than at AAMI, then thats a possibility. but of course to do that you would have to battle the SANFL who do not want AFL football at adelaide oval PERIOD!

Stan, we don't want to hand match day AFL revenue to the SACA! They'd love it and of course they would. But all that does is harm the SANFL and the 9 clubs to the advantage of cricket.

Even if Port lose money on home games, the SANFL still wins overall from those games because of their share of the revenue.

It won't happen anyway, but I don't think everyone realises how important AAMI Stadium is and are too quick to talk about Adelaide Oval or CBD Stadium options. :-q

Fans of footy in SA (SANFL & AFL) must support retaining AAMI and all its AFL games.

Guts is all about what's in the jumper and not the colour of it.

The SANFL sure have taken a stance on this.

I heard Wicker talking about 'if' Port had the same number of members as Adelaide and 'if' Port got the same numbers to AAMI it would equate to about $3.2M a year.

Has he noticed that we dont have the same membership and we dont get the same crowd figures?

Instead of telling us the reasons why, which I am sure nobody at Alberton was aware of why not be a little constructive in working on methods to help turn it around? To me it sounds like the SANFL is more than happy with how things are....

The Kangaroos President ( in an interview I saw the other night ) said he fully understands Port's plight when it comes to Stadium deals as the Roos get rodgered ( Not by you Rog ) by the AFL on the deal to play at Docklands.
PAFC. Forever.

Surely it is incumbent on the licence holder to do any "propping up".

Of course, the SANFL is concerned with maintaining its own castle. Unfortunately, in this era of delocalised sporting franchises, major sporting venues in the burbs is anachronistic. With the exception of Stadium Australia (and doesn't that look great when it's empty), all capital city AFL venues are in the city or city fringe. Why would Stan from the north eastern suburbs (if he followed Port) want to schlep out to West Lakes on a cold Friday or Saturday night?

AAMI Stadium is important - to the self-interested SANFL more than the general public. Who can deny that Friday night AFL footy at Adelaide Oval would be sensational?

This is exactly right - the fans are the ones who will have the ultimate say. Friday night footy at Adelaide Oval would be maginificent - especially after the upgrades. If I was Port Adelaide - I'd be seriously looking into the value of shifting home games there. Whether or not under the current structure of the SANFL owning the licence etc. will allow this to happen, I'm not sure?
