The most overrated and underrated players in the AFL

Ben Rutten is very much overrated. He instigates the kickety kicks, calls for reverse passes and stuffs up by trying to handball every possession.

Hodge from Hawthorn I would swap ANYBODY at the crows for. A GREAT player

Chad Cornes is absolutely wasted the way he is playing at the moment. A strong pack mark with a very physical presence in games he is now reduced to running around half back scabbing handballs off lesser players that get the ball for him.

Just because you are on an AFL list that doesn't mean you are 'rated' except by the recruiting staff of that particular club. When someone is overrated they are being praised above and beyond what they have actually managed to produce. No one really rates Jobe Watson..even some Essendon fans don't rate him therefore he is not overrated.

Well the Essendon coaches must rate him cos they keep picking him and playing him in the guts.

A skillful player who does good things with the ball when he gets it. Apparently he's headed for more midfield time this year so maybe that comment is slightly premature.

Yeah perhaps. Also have never seen him chase a man, or get a hard ball, or get a kick when his side isnt winning. Dont doubt he is skillful and does good things when things are going Collingwoods way.

Kade simpson - the public i think dont recognise how good this bloke is, he is all class, i hate the blues somethin chronic but jeeze this bloke gets me too the game when they play in adelaide....
mackie-someone suggested he was over rated but i think he is a very good player (cant remember if he got all australian but was in 40 man squad), plays on a franklin or pavlich/then on a small forward, very important player to the cats IMO)
Scott Thompson - use of the ball is suspect but a very good player, important player, hardness and toughness this bloke is right up there
James Sellar- MOST OVERRATED BY FAR IMO HE WAS GIFTED A GAME, IT WAS A DISGRACE
Michael Rischitelli (spelling incorrect) - i think he is underrted a very good user and finder of the ball, can play the in and under or the outside role which is hard to come by
Peter Burgoyne - does he know what a hard ball is? i think every AFL player can play his role, similar to johncock but johncock tougher and isnt afraid of the hard ball IMO
Chris Newmann - very underrated by opposition clubs/spectators. very important to our club and his defensive and rebounding skills are sensational.
Tarkyn Lockyear - very good and tight player, woulda been a whole let better IMO if injuries didn screw his early years up
Brett Deledio/Andrew Carrazzo - both best and fairest winners both very important to their clubs, deledio proved he can play consistent football and carrazzo lacks a bit of penetration with his kick. Tredrea - I HATE THE POWER, but this bloke even still and with all his injuries, is very very important to port and their structure and his role in the team, i think he is underrated at present.

PS: Brett Deledio to win the brownlow, go you tigers

You have compared P.Burgoyne with Johncock when i think Carazzo would be a fairer comparison . Both tend to sit at half back getting cheap kicks which usually are more sideways then forward. not sure how Carazzo can be valuabe but Burgoyne soft?

Dal Santo the most overrated by far for mine.

carrazzo won his best and fairest as an on baller in 2007. The likes of Judd, Stevens (being fit), Gibbs and murphy coming on, they used him as a defender who plays like burgoyne and johncock. but when he won his ebst and fairest he was not a defender, he won it as an onballer!!! Johncock and Burgoyne play very similar roles for there clubs, they play the sweeping and running roles whether it ebing back pocket or back flank! IMO and from my footy experience they play similar roles...

That's what I said Floody but who else rates him? Someone from outside of the club would have to rate him before he could be considered overrated surely?

Scotty Thompson is not overated, he makes some mistakes sometimes, even barrie Robran made a mistake (only one though). 95 percent of crows supporters love thommo, the other 5 are whingers. Opposition Coaches rate him, their best tagger goes straight to him everygame

I think Jobe Watson is becoming a very good footballer. I used to get so frustrated at his disposal but this seems to have improved. Just remember last year himself and Hille were third in tap, and clearance combination behind Cox and Priddas and Sandilands and one of the Freo players.

I think Scott Thompson is very overrated. But I think that Matthew Robran was the most overrated footballer of all time. He played one good game in a Prelim Final in 98 but apart from that I never remember him playing another good game.

I also think Trent Hentschel is overrated. The Crows think he will be the forward saviour but when has he done anything good.

Who was Robran overrated by???
Did a job in a backtoback premiership side, was never rated as an all-australian chf or anything like that...

You're a bit hard on Hentschel too, had the prime of his career taken away by injury, was showing excellent signs that year, we'll never know how good he could have been.

As soon as Potential went down with his knee the crows lost all there forward fluancy and came back to the pack.... We lost by a kick to West Coast who ended up winning the flag.... you could day that he could have been the difference we broke down accross CHF that game and they had hunter, lynch etc grabbing everything. The crows havent been the same since loosing Trent. So i think youa re very hard on your assessment of Trent.
