Calling him fat isn’t racist.

Reminding him of the time he gatoraded his pee sample isn’t racist.

Both of these things can be attributed to Willie the person.

Port painting a picture that he’s being picked on doesn’t come off well.

Here's where things become complex, if he interprets that as being an attack on his heritage then that's how he see's it. Not taking sides either way, just noting that for you and me it isn't taken as an attack on our people just an attack on your calorie intake.

Long bow to draw there mate
He made threats in the heat of the moment and he has to own it to get better

Sounds like he has and he’s looking to get better so good on him

So then any derogatory remarks, towards him, are potentially interpreted as an attack on his heritage.

I’ve not come across fat shaming as a race issue previously, new territory there.

I mean, it's true Indigenous people have higher rates of heart disease, obesity and diabetes, but it's a very bloody long bow to draw to call these racist sledges, on their own. Also up for debate is it lifestyle or genetics contributing to these higher numbers.

Davies exacerbated the issue with his train wreck of a press conference, I'm yet to find a redeeming feature with this bloke.

If what Davies is saying is true, casual or not, why are these "racist" comments not being called out by the player to the club and then to the AFL? We know the AFL will act on racism.

I can only think this is why Davies has called for the AFL to educate all within the industry further on these matters.

The "Walk a mile in their shoes" comes to mind here, we can think or feel what we want but ultimately it's the person taking the comments to heart who needs to educate us on why it's taken that way, to help us understand why.

Feels like this is just the beginning of something far greater.

100%
Most likely Willie will be booed Goodes style for the remainder of his career. If this issue was done and dusted on Monday with a fine, no one is speaking Willies name on Friday still. Davies and Koch constantly mansplaining why Willie does what he does has absolutely escalated it in the public.

Was coming here to say the same thing.

The AFL acts on racism, so if this is what it is, or what it’s interpreted to be, call it out.

Yeah, very valid point.

However, it also has the scent of claiming mental health after a player fails a drug test.

Do we want players not being able to call some people fat, and not others because its culturally inappropriate? I get the bigger picture with racism, but this is taking it too far in my opinion. All it will do is segregate the indigenous players more in the AFL.

I said the same thing last night, offering someone to correct me if Rioli or the clubs that he has played for have ever done this… so far, crickets.

My interpretation of what CD said is likely Dale, Close and Roberts all called Willie fat

Josh Rachelle dodged a bullet last year then calling people toothless. The Philippino’s were potentially vilified.
