Gees there is a lot of love for GWS.

They absolutely blew it last year. They'll have a harder draw this year and I dont recall them having any major injury issues last year.

cameron and devon smith were a couple that missed a lot.

their depth is better than anyone else's though. they have multiple top 10 draft picks that dont even get a look in (or go to carlton)

While many of us ( rightly ) mock the Tigers midfield I think most of us would have snapped up Deledio if we could have, they've added another top notch seasoned body into that midfield that already was the envy of the competition.

I also think last years "so close but so far" would have a few like Shaw, Mumford, Davis, Johnson, Griffen and Deledio thinking it's time for one, or another one for some of them, before they call time on their careers. I think the AFL's orange monster is set to be unleashed this year and if they, the AFL, don't do something about putting a clamp on them then the fear mongering of "they'll win 5 in a row" might not be far from the truth. They're now a destination club, they'll have free agents lining up at the door.

This.

Their 2nd string who decide to chase greener pastures either get traded for more first round picks, or should they "only" fetch a 2nd or 3rd, they are appropriately used towards an academy bid for a first round gun.

Giants they are appropriately named. The AFL messed up their concessions big time. The only thing which stopped the suns from doing the same was their own mismanagement.

I dont think they messed up the concessions, I think you have to give credit to GWS for going the right way about it. Compare them to what Gold Coast did and they are worlds apart

No disagreements re. GWS at all, Benny.

Interested to hear your thoughts on why the concessions were about right, though.

To capture the Western Sydney market the team just had to be successful and quick to.

Unfortunately for me its one of the worse parts of the AFL is that it manipulates the competition to get the potential results it wants. No competition should do this.

1 kick away from a GF and they have 15,000 members. Western Sydney will never be a footy city.

i guess i just mean it in the context of comparing them to gold coast.

If they did their job poorly like GC did, we would be saying why didnt they get more concessions. It just seems like they managed the situation extremely well.

The debate about what concessions they actually got is hard. It definitely hurt the other clubs who needed to rebuild at the time.

You do know the Suns and GWS had different concessions and the GWS were far more favourable.
I do agree the Suns botched their initial model up though and should have done things differently
