I dont think it can be based on just your football ability, but your contribution to the game. Hence the induction of umpires and administrators.

In terms of contribution to the game, particularly in indigenous communities obviously, I doubt you can find someone who as done more. So I would think someone like that is probably more deserving than someone who just happened to captain a premiership side and not much else (I.e Bickley)

Congratulations to Paul Bagshaw - long overdue inductee into the Australian Football Hall of Fame for Mr Magic.

One of the greats of SA Football.

For this ex-Territorian and with his nephew playing at the Bay, it was great to see Maurice Rioli inducted into the Hall of Fame as well. I remember watching WANFL highlights when I first moved to the NT in '79. That 1980 South fremantle side is one of the great teams in Australian football history (Rioli, Carter, Michael, Hardie, Vigona, Campbell). Rioli was a gun back then and he proved it making the All-Australian team again in 1988 in the Bicentennial Carnival two years after leaving the VFL.

Say what you want about the strength of the VFL compared to SANFL and WANFL in the 70s and 80s the Port Adelaide side of 1980 and the South Freo side would have played VFL finals, easily....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Stoked to see Maurice Rioli make it in, surprised it took this long actually. As a kid growing up he was my first ever favourite player, such a star and certainly imho right at home among the other champions in the HOF.

Buckley and tredrea? Not 100% sure about tbh. Yes they are both premiership captains with 250 games but is that enough?

Time probably says yes, but I do agree that people like that should probably have to wait a bit longer.

10 years is a good number to wait too imo

When did Buckley captain a premiership?
Or even win one........ Port Magpies excluded?

Tredders - 4 x AA ( 2001,2002,2003,2004 in what is widely regarded as the hardest spot on the ground, CHF ), 4 x BnF, Premiership in SANFL and AFL (acting captain), AFLCA player of the year 2004, 8 x PAFC leading goal kicker, 26 SANFL games, 255 AFL games. Those numbers stack up anywhere.

Bucks - 7 x AA, 7 x BnF (1xSANFL 6xAFL), Norm Smith, Rising Star, Magarey, Brownlow, SANFL premiership, Collingwood Team of the Century, 37 SANFL games, 280 AFL games. He's in there without question.

Yeah there is........FIGJAM use to count them(possessions) each game.
Surely that alone qualifies him.

Being ultra-focused qualifies you as being a knob. Interesting philosophy.
