I can't believe the hoopla over this.

The worst thing is that they had an agreement with a player that wasn't signed off on by the AFL. That's all. The agreement itself is nothing at all.

There is no way it's draft tampering.

To be honest, I reckon it was used to seal the deal two years ago and that's it. He was deciding then where to go/what to do - and the Crows offered to send him where he wants to go to get the contract over the line and get his signature.

Maybe the Bulldogs should pay for getting Lauchlan Veale

Tippett is one very clever fellow, infact a financial genius. Perhaps his real home is somewhere in Nigeria ?

This alone could be a worry mate .. You know what Andy get's like, and if he see's a club has taken it upon themselves to pen an arrangement he considers should have had AFL ratification, he could ensure a penalty above the crime is imposed.

Interesting to see what comes of all of this.

I agree it COULD be a worry but I really think it shouldn't be.

It's hardly rorting of the salary cap ala Cartlon.

Am I missing something here? If we are talking about 'draft tampering' wouldn't we be referring to the club, or Tippett tampering with the draft process, i.e. where he gets picked, and by which club - IF he has nominated for the draft?

Aren't clubs free to trade with whichever club they like during the 'trade period'? And if Adelaide wish to trade with a certain club, and accept lower picks, then isn't that their choice?

When you say HH3 that all clubs should get a crack at him, then that rearely happens during the 'trade period', does it? Players always seem to nominate who they wish their current club to deal with

....i think i've just confused myself!

Its all a bit confusing to me, but what I do think is that the AFL will be careful about what sanction it may hand out, given that AFL player recruitment rules are more than likely against legislation such as the Fair Trading Act.

Yeah but I think thats more of a courtesy thing...if he wanted to go to Sydney and GWS rang the Crows and said we'll give you picks 1 and 2 for him, he'd be heading to the Giants. Thats how I understand it anyway.

The way the "deal" is being described, it sounds like they told KT they wouldnt even listen to any other offers that didnt come from the club of his choice.

If the AFL deems the deal "under market value" they wont sign off on it. So if Adelaide accepted a late draft pick from Sydney to honor their deal with KT, the AFL would most likely deny the trade and make them sort out a better deal.

The more I read on this the more I tend to agree with Diss in this being a storm in a teacup.

Could be as simple as the club not being happy with the Pick 22/White deal and feeling that Sydney are taking advantage of a deal that wasn't meant to apply to Tippett leaving for the reigning premier.

So they are getting the AFL involved even though it means fessing up on the deal and dealing with any repercussions.

I don't buy the theory that they are trying to stop Tippett playing next year.

The deal itself doesn't feel like a major system rort so surely any sanction would be at the lower end of the scale for both parties?
In between signatures .....

Hmm, that means Geelong would be gone as well :(

Geelong were fined $77,000 in 1998 and excluded from the 1999 pre-season draft after it was found that they had exceeded the salary cap by $154,000 during the 1997 season.

What i found staggering was this ........

in 1987, Sydney were fined the maximum of $60,000 and forfeited their first round pick in the National Draft after a VFL investigation found that they had exceeded the salary cap by $1.15 million during the season.

Times have changed since then in relation to penalties but maybe cause Sydney are involved the AFL may just turn a blind eye 8)

It was bullcarp that Carlton had to be made an example of in that era.

I mean when we did it, we kicked ass. Sydney however were a joke.
