The media used to know what was going on because years ago there was a trusted few who had access to club information. These days, with more journalists than players, clubs are far more guarded with information they release. As a result, the media have decided to keep the headlines rolling by taking educated (or in some cases - uneducated) guesses. This is why the swing to opinion pieces rather than facts.

I know my club Hawthorn took a stance a couple of years ago and decided to tell the media nothing. The bi-product of that is you have to wear all sorts of ridiculous allegations because the media don't like being treated like the fools they are.

Just look at the way they handled the 'Walker having a beer at the football' incident. A nothing story, but the media go off half cocked, without knowing the facts, and treat it as the crime of the century. The amazing thing about the 'Walker to GWS' story is very few have asked Taylor himself, and those who did ask haven't listened to what he's been saying.

NEVER TRUST THE MEDIA, they don't give a rats toss bag about the individual, as long as they sell papers & sound important.

To put my thoughts in perspective:

Kurt Tippett is David Neitz on potential. Likely a three goal prospect, getting regular representation in a poor team.
Taylor Walker is more Buddy Franklin. Will have his off days, and when he's off, he's really off, but when he's on? No need to elaborate.

Just comes down to what you'd prefer.

Your club doesn't have to tell the media anything, your club President has media dribbling out his mouth whenever he opens it. Bit like most other Victorian club presidents.

If he believes in honoring contracts, sign him up for another 3 years.

Play him in the ruck. I reckon him & Jacobs would be a great rucking duo.
IMO he is not the answer up forward. Walker & Mckernan are much more likely to develop in that role.
Sure, ... if things arent working, chuck him down there on occassion.

... if he doesn't want to sign, trade him now for someone who WANTS to play out of SA and put some work into them.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

The guys is a spud anyway. He is one of the most overrated players in the AFL. I even reckon Tom Hawkins is better than him.
So you've seen everything have you?
Yep

No
Well you haven't seen everything then have you.

I tend to agree.
Would be a good battering ram in the ruck, with Jacobs as the No.1 ruckman.
Once he goes down with an injury at some stage during the season, Maric can take over the role.

(that sounds a bit harsh, but it is an important role IMO)

No one thought he was leaving this year anyway. The press conference was just fluff said nothing noone knew anyway. Only confirmed he is looking to leave the club.

All he confirmed was that he would most likely end up back home one day. That could be after he retires FFS.

What is he supposed to say? "Nah I don't ever want to go back to the Gold Coast, it's a dump compared to Adelaide".

The fact that he felt the need to even say something on the matter - directly to fans and not to the media - suggests to me that he has every intention of giving back as much as he can to the club that has recruited and developed him.

The Gold Coast is a dump compared to Adelaide. Full of rich arseholes and hotels and shit nightclubs.

If tippett wants to go home eventually send him home now in a straight swap for day. he's gonna be good and why spend money and time on tippett. great player but if you dont want to be there long term, go home
