Mate I bought your arguement two years ago after coming back to Adelaide. The AFL if full of franchises footy clubs only exist at the SANFL/State League level.

Crap, other way around these days if anything. My AFL club's president insists that members are his No 1 priority and backs up his statement with actions where my SANFL club is only interested in making money from pokies while not even allowing members to ask questions.
My AFL club plays football and attractive football at that, my SANFL club plays an ugly hybrid of soccer and rugby.

Back on he topic though if the AFL are going to artificially run the draw by ensuring the big clubs play each othe more often and lesser clubs play those big clubs thus eating into their revenue while adding to others it makes sense to even it up a bit. My preferred option like a lot of others would be to have a perfectly fair draw with no equilisation funds though.

Wedgie I'll shock you by saying I think you are spot on here

I'd also prefer that all teams play each other the same amount of times over a number of years. However, if the contrived draw produces a bigger pool of funds (that then get shared with the clubs that miss the blockbusters) than would the perfectly fair draw then I can live with it.

Unfortunately the blockbuster policy just reinforces and adds to the support base for those "blockbuster" teams which in the longer run would further disadvantage the lesser supported teams.

I think even our own SANFL had a blockbuster policy in the late 70s and early 80s with their so-called "big 4"?

well the AFL bend over backwards to give Collingwood as much exposure/block busters etc as possible. From a business point of view it makes sense as they have a large supporter base/TV audience but form equality in a sporting sense it does not. I am sure the AFL would love for Collingwood to make the grandfinal each year as they will make more money this way. Ideally every team should play each other twice in a season at each others home ground. Every team should be entitled to the same exposure on TV e.g. friday nights etc.

Obviously this is not realistic as the AFL is only wanting to increase revenue and there are too many teams in Melbourne to have equality in a draw, I guess thats why they call it a Fixture.

I guess we could drop some teams in order to have an equal draw.

Finally some reasonable posts.

Give the Roos a home game against all Melbourne teams each year and the hand wont be coming out of Arden St.
