Talk on the national game

Great game, real footy weather and the 31k that rocked up were REAL footy fans, as vocal a Crows game as I can remembber.

Douglas was sensational, especially in the midfield with tons of clearances, but also kicked 3. His best game ever.

McLeod's first term was vintage Macca, that left foot goal just crazy. Bock, van Berlo both excellent, Reilly had a poor start but really responded well.

REALLY liked the look of Gunston too, didn't do much but looked very impressive.

Tipped Adelaide, Brisbane are shot.

What was his second efforts like at times with the Dogs he was very very lazy when opponents had the ball.

Agree on Douglas' game. Instead of trying to dodge around 6 blokes and run in circles, he actually moved the ball on forward and showed some poise. He is a pretty good clearance player when he knows his limitations.

Bock excellent on Brown, even though he is not fit but i dont think Bock is 100% fit yet either. Rutten was ok, although the stats show 5 goals to Fev. He probably got 3 of those on turnovers, one-on-one Rutten was only beaten 2-3 times.

Burton can safely retire now, as Walker will fill his place nicely as the most frustrating player for supporters to watch. Did some great things, but also did some diabolical things too. He has talent, but not sure that includes having a footy brain.

IMO, its kind of ironic that people have been calling for Walker to play as he has natural flair and talent, which seems to be the same reasons why they wanted Burton dropped. Only difference being natural flair was called 'selfishness' in Burton's case...

I noticed that to, but i think personally he was in shock that he was actually out there and got better as the game went on. Some players when they play their first game are tentative and ore of whats going on around them and some just get in there and throw everything at it. I think he just took a while to find his feet. His finish in the last qtr was class and a big confidence boost!!!

The one player i have been really impressed with the last few weeks would have to be Jared Petrenko. He might of had only 13 posessions on sunday but had 7 hard ball gets and a few inside 50's. His attack on the ball and forward pressure is great also, has been a big improver this year IMO.

I thought Gunston was ok on debut. Kicked a goal to virtually seal the game. Kept his feet well and attacked the ball. What more could u ask from a kid.

The handball to Porpoise is a prime example of that.

There were a few times where he tried to do the impossible and stuffed up. It's good to see him doing that and taking the game on but when the first give is there give it, It's just a natural part of the game that should be done. And when your on your on, don't be too selfish and have shots from everywhere.

Spot on. If you watch the replay of that, Porps actually tells Walker not to give it to him yet, to wait until he had ran closer to goal. I watched Porps straight after, and he had a few words to say to young Walker. There may have been a few choice ones in amongst them too... ;)

Walker is 20 for crying out loud!! Just turned 20! He was virtually the match-winner yesterday, the man who broke the game open in the last, and he's still getting bagged! Unreal!

You won't know if the current hype is ridiculous until his career is done ;)
