Talk on the national game

Things i took out of yesterdays game -

1) Agree with SS, Martin looks the goods.

2) Also agree with SS, McLeod is a worry. This has been evident for a while though.

3) Was impressed with Douglas, thought he played with some real urgency and courage.

4) Vince and Mackay didn't handle the increased pressure and physicality.

5) Burton is very rusty, but give him a game or 2 to get it right.

6) Maric was ok, but not sure he is a first-choice ruckman.

7) Johncock needs to be played more as a 'loose backman', more like Bassett used to play.

Excuses, excuses Farmy. Remember those excuses weren't ok for me to use when Freo had plenty of their good players out last week.
You were only better then Freo for 50% of the game, kicking one goal in the middle half of footy and only 2 points in the third qtr. Karma maybe?
Anyway, the Crows showed that they could play good footy in the first qtr but the Saints can do that consistently over 4, which is their strength.
The Crows went back to their sideways, backwards best. You have to try and break lines against a disciplined unit like th Saints which you could see Brodie Martin trying to do.
Sure he got caught a couple of times, but when he made it through his disposal was mostly beautiful. A big plus in a game where he didn't have many mates taking it on like him.

What about James Sellar?
I know our ruck stocks are think, but pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease? Anyone but him!
Disgraceful I honestly think he is the worst player to pull on the Crows guernsey, EVER. If not in the entire AFL.

Adelaide are now my adopted team. Might go back to following the Tige's when they find some direction.

James Sellar though, love his endeavour. But that is all he has.

That alone puts him ahead of many AFL footballers.

Yes! He thoroughly deserves another 3 years on his contract.

Irrespective of his inability to hit a target, or hold a mark. COME ON!
The only thing i think he is capable of is palming the ball down to anyone other than a damaging, opposition midfielder.

Johncock listed as 5th best in the 'Tiser..........................
Anyone else agree that he had an absolute STINKER?
B. Martin was far more productive than Stiffy.

Martin was probably more efficient and productive, but Johncock's efforts were valiant IMO.
He tried all day and while some skill errors raised some question marks, I felt he had little other option than to try the difficult passes under pressure.
Even McLeod took over the kicking in duties and put it straight out on the full.

Fair call.
Stiffy does seem to crumble under pressure, but he's got quite a few mates that fit into the same category.

Meh, as far as I'm concerned this game was only the second stinker that's been served up all year, (the previous Showdown being the other).

For a team with so many youngsters that is a great effort, we could quite easily be a Melbourne or a Fremantle.

We looked like what we still are, boys against men. It was good to be reminded of that.

To be honest we have already won 1-2 games more than I expected for the whole season, and my hope for the emergence of the next brigade of possible premiership players in 2009 has definitely been more than realised (another one in Brodie Martin yesterday, what a debut!).

They will still do enough to make finals from here, and this exposure will be another important stage in the development of the team. I see a lot of 07 Hawks in the current Crows squad.

The Showdown this week offers a chance for the young brigade to redeem themselves, and I am confident they will take it.

BULLDUST!!! Melbourne and Fremantle do not have the quality of youth like Adelaide does.

Exactly my point Booney. Worse draft picks, squads with similar percentages of first & second year players, and yet we have managed to develop the players you list above and be in finals contention this year whilst the likes of Melbourne, Richmond & Freo continue to languish at the bottom of the table.

I know im chiming in super super late here but Adelaide are significantly more experienced than both Melbourne and Freo. Not similar percentages at all.

Adelaide:
Average - 2028 games experience per match
High - 2364
Low - 1750
Times above 2000 - 11
Games from 1st/2nd year players - 62 from 8 players

Fremantle:
Average - 1836
High - 2120
Low - 1491
Times above 2000 - 1
Games from 1st/2nd year players - 87 from 13 players

Melbourne:
Average - 1571
High - 1834
Low - 1226
Times above 2000 - 0
Games from 1st/2nd year players - 86 from 11 players

So Adelaide are pretty significantly more experienced than both those. Freo have debuted more players this year than any other team in history and Melbourne would have the least experienced side since Fitzroys last two years.
