He's not pleading guilty unless they have already negotiated a sentence that no doubt will not include jail time. I expect that lad to go Balta civilly however.

How can he plead not guilty given the video footage?

MW is suggesting he did a plea bargain to plead guilty in return for a lesser sentence.

HTF can you plea bargain when video evidence confirms your guilt?
I mean in what universe could he plead not guilty?
Judge takes a couple of looks at the video and says you're guilty pal and sentence him accordingly.

Depends on the charge. Murderers plead guilty to manslaughter and get a 10 years instead of 30.
Even pleading guilty to the actual charge the prosecutors and defenders can agree on a sentence so it does not go to trial and the offender gets a big discount.

Judges rarely sentence repeat offenders to their deserving whack, I doubt Balta will be doing jail time.

Will probably end up getting something similar to what Dane Swan got.

That is some weapon to be doing that sort of thing but I reckon the judge will look at the hit from side / behind pretty badly

Not condoning anything, but the victim just ended up with a cut head I think? Bloody lucky when you watch the vision.

If you're going off precedents, Swan was one of three who knocked one bloke out, gave another a permanent brain injury, but got 100 hours of community service. There's plenty of judges who are coterie members, can see this getting a near identical result. Happen to be proven wrong though, it was a shit act from a much bigger bloke.

He isnt going to jail for that, those who think that are way out of touch.
He'll get community service, court costs and maybe $100 damages to the victim.
He probably wont get a conviction recorded either. Im assuming its his 1st offence.

It's assault with intent to cause harm.
Any judge that goes light here will be smashed by the media and their peers.
He will definitely have a conviction recorded.

Faaark, this is so way off track for this thread. #-o

As a North supporter I’m acutely aware of the incident, and yes I’ve seen the grainy footage. I wasn’t at the SCG that day, were you?

Do you view that as a gutless hit from behind?

Tell you what’s gutless, being a keyboard warrior on here labelling players as gutless. Love to see you front up to Lethal (even at his age now) and call him gutless to his face…. I’ll even give you a box to stand on so you can look him in the eye.

That game was shown on live TV when Barrie Robran got injured
I recall seeing the incident , but didnt realise at that time the impact it was to have on the gr8 mans career
Probably cost him winning 5 Magarey Medals

Former AFL player Andrew Krakouer has died aged 42.

The ex-Richmond and Collingwood player died of a suspected heart attack on Sunday in Perth.

He played 102 games for the Tigers and 35 with the Magpies, kicking three goals in the 2011 grand final defeat to Geelong.

Yep, far too young.

Also a good reminder for those of us aged 40+ to get your annual check up done.
