2011 AFL Grand Final- Collingwood vs Geelong

Talk on the national game

We all seem to be talking about whether it was the team or the ability of the coach in Scott to get them over the line. I must admit that Geelongs game plan was different to that of recent years which is from the coach. But lets be honest he did get a pretty reasonable team to start of with. Bringing in players like Christenson, Menzel and Duncan has helped there depth around the ground.

So really its probably a bit of both, yes Chris Scott has a good team but also yes he can coach as well. Once the JPod went down he restructed his forward line well. Also Taylor was getting smashed by cloke so he made the move to shut this down. Perhaps simple but still he was alert to this.

Anyway Collingwood now have a rookie coach and I would expect to see some more fallout from the transition. Big Ed reckons Mick has nothing left to give, but Mick is not all that happy about that statement from Ed. I look forward to watching this all pan out.

In closing Geelong, are they the greatest team of all, well maybe but either way they are pretty damn good.

I haven't laughed so much since '07 when the Cats shamed Port Power. Collingwood should never have been there anyway. Hawthorn had them on toast but it would not have mattered - no one was ever going to beat Geelong. They will come back to the field a bit next year. Collingwood would have to have some sort of record as being the team to lose the most grand finals surely? I loved it!

GAJ is probably the most brilliant player of all time in close but I'd have Jimmy any day if there was a choice.

Still find it unbelievable that Jimmy didn't make the All Australian squad, still the first I'd pick any day of the week.

Geelong are even more dominant on the mad Monday partying than they are on the field.

Having been expected to slide away from Flag contention they refused to accept that and took Collingwood down.
Eddie's lot were supposed to be untouchable in 2011, but Geelong wouldn't let them have it, showing us the Cat Era was far from finished.
Only one of the greatest team's ever can pull off something like this.

I was hearing talk from everyone but Collingwood supporters, that we had it in the bag- in July!
I said that was a ridiculous statement, but the Pies were in good form for most of the year.
The only game the Pies lost for the year were to Geelong- no-one else beat them.
Geelong went under the radar, yet look back at their year- it's no surprise.
The GF itself was a good contest up until J Pod was injured- the Casts blew the game away from there.
Collingwood looked tired & spent coming into the finals, whilst the Cats were purring nicely.
As for the whole Buckley-Malthouse saga- I'm not on the inner sanctum, so wouldn't know, but the stories are-
-Malthouse spent, time to retire
-Malthouse a reluctant retiree
-Buckley demanding to assume his right in 2012
The truth was in there somewhere, but looking back on the game that counts, Malthouse was out-coached, the Pies out-played.

Collingwood should seriously consider stripping him of the captaincy - two petulant speeches in Grand Finals now

and I like many do not rate him as a footballer

2 things about that, Usually the losing Captain is gracious and congratulates the other team first, not address his own team first!

And if he is the Captain of the team and a backline player, why would he not go onto Hawkins when he was going nuts in the 3rd, oh thats right, cos Maxwell is a dud player who appraently is a great leader.

I'm a huge Malthouse fan (hard to argue against a man that brought us the premiership last year), but events of late and stories emerging have me wonder whether his ego was disruptive to the finals campaign.
