I think M Crouch plays over McKernan. We dont need McKernan 5th tall or as back up ruck. Cant play all of Jenkins, Johnston, Pods, Sauce and S Mac.

Question is, can you blokes be strong enough in the first 6-8 weeks to be in a good position when those missing make a return?

Who are your first 8 games against?

( I say 8 because the blokes missing 3-6 games will need a couple to get up to speed )

Realistically Booney we could easily be 0-3 (Geelong, Port, Sydney) but then we have StKilda

IMO we have a 'solid' squad that is more than capable but its a pretty tough start with a few first choice players out.... im not overly confident we will start the season on the favourable side of the ledger..... more than happy to be wrong

Tough first few games against Cats, Port, Sydney then we have Saints, GWS, Bulldogs, Melbourne before the bye in round 8.

So looking at hopfully going into the bye most likley 5-2 or 6 - 1 best case senario.

It's either SMac or Jenkins, can't play both. I think that will be the side though, can't see Sando pulling any suprises.

team looks pretty good, although i agree only two of johnston mckernan and jenkins plays imo. whether crouch or kerridge come in im not sure, i reckon crouch should be given a crack.

will be between jaensch and martin for that last spot off half back too.

pfft, as if you dont know every other teams fixture, you are such a fool booney :D

seriously though, we have

Geelong A
Port A
Sydney H
St Kilda A
GWS H
WB A
Melb H

then we have the round 8 bye, and collingwood at home in round 9

realistically, i think we should have 4 wins in that first 7 games without too much worries, although WB away would be a danger game. if we can jag one of the games against port or sydney, i think it will set our season up nicely, and we will be sitting in the 8 going into the bye, with the injured players to come back.

**Bennymacca beat me to it!

Slow work day here
Cats (A)
Port (A)
Swans (H)
Saints (A)
GWS (H)
Dogs (A)
Demons (H)
Bye
Pies (H)

From this we should be
4 wins
2 50/50 (Swans/Pies) This is dependent on their form leading up.
1 Showdown - Anything can happen
1 loss - Cats

So potentially after 8 rounds we could be at worst 5-3.

5-2 with a win over Port or 4-3 with a loss at the Showdown looks ok on paper, with plenty to come back.

Can't complain about that draw! ;)

the problem will be, if we start the season 0-3, then the next 4 becomes must wins, and im always nervous when you MUST win 4 in a row, we could easily drop one of them, especially the bulldogs game. so i think the sydney and port games are critical.

geelong have a few out too, would be amazing if we could get up, but i dont see it happening down in geelong.

yeah I really don't feel comfortable with a "must win" game. never makes for good viewing. and when they are must wins, 3 teams I don't want to watch us play are - North, WB or Port.

Heard Malthouse last night say Port now need to win 11 of 21 to get 12 wins, Carlton need to win 12 of 21. That pressure mounts.

So 0-3 means you then need to win 12 of 18 to be finals bound.

yeah 0-3 almost means no finals. or at least it means it is tough and the pressure is on.

12 wins might not be enough either, and even if it is will guarantee you an away final.

the benchmark for any team really should be 14 wins at the least.

Correct, you will need 14 wins this year to assure a finals campaign.

Could be 1-7. Should beat Saints. 50/50 with Pies, Demons, Dogs and GWS.

Cats very much an unknown quantity this season. We are better in ruck but we've lost a lot of experience. Last year Motlop and to a lesser extent Christensen played a vital role in providing some pace around the forward fifty. Tomorrow Mitch Brown, who has promised much and delivered little and 250 gamer Bartel will be keys up front. Both of these guys rely on marking power. The Cows have a chance if running the ball out.

The improvement in Geelong must come from Mitch Duncan and josh Caddy and Varcoe owes us more than his frustrating cameos. Its a must win game for Geelong. IMO.
