When you have experienced guys like Eade and Ratten turn you down to be assistants you know your club is in trouble

perhaps they could use their strategy of naming half their side as captains for that 1 game. Name the other half as coaches :D

I dont think Eade has officially withdrawn, not publicly.

I would expect while Collingwood are still going in 2012 he would not want to be seen as pursuing another job. Collingwood lose tonight, I expect things to change there.

A Hawthorn assistant coach is linked to the job, not sure who. Betting markets have been suspended.

No experienced coach left unless they took Ayres or Knights

Obviously feels that he is on a hiding to nothing by taking the job

The word was that he went to AFL about situation re. Port's future and maybe he didn't like what he heard?

Don't let this TV deal fool you, it's only for the set number of teams so if the AFL decide in 3 years time that they'd be better off with a 3rd side in Perth rather than Port Adelaide, then that maybe what happens.

Or maybe he was told he wouldn't be getting the job so was given the chance to come out and say he was pulling out of the race.

Yes you are probably right but is also still an outside chance that Carlton are trying to get a reduced rate for last year of contract they owe him and they will argue it should be less if he's head coach elsewhere.

I heard that Ratten is in line for a GC senior assistant role that will in turn eventually be the senior coach to replace McKenna in 2 - 3 years time. I mean if this was the case then you look at Port who will probably be ok-ish maybe by then with some good young players or the GC who will be start to be getting very good with all of there young talent. And really this would be handed to him.
