That was the Kingpin for Port - promising signs at last at Alberton

Well all of their promissing youngesters have now signed on. With a decent preseason and a better coaching setup it will be interesting to see what Port will dish up next year.

:D :D Butcher you ripper!

Now its to the draft for us, hopefully there is a good young forward and a couple of KP Backmen floating about which we can snaffle and continue our development phase.

Interesting story re : Jon Griffen at Fremantle. Perhaps looking for a return to Adelaide?

I never really rated him, but, he dod have a few soild games for Adelaide and would add instant depth to our very thin ruckman stocks. Griffen for Motlop or Surjan?

Ive always rated Griffens abiities .. When he gets it right he is a very good player, but consistency has been his issue.

He's big enough and moves well enough for his size, reasonable hands and a very good kick for a big bloke, would be a great fit at Alberton.

Would be surprised though if Freo had enough confidence in Sandilands body to rate Griffen as anything other than a required a player.

Correct, thats the problem.

Freo will want to keep him. They got him for bargain basement rates IIRC when he wanted to head back to WA, they'd be silly to give him away in turn.

Why would he want to return to SA again, i don't get it.
maybe he wants two years at Port, then to return home again and finish his career at west Coast.......? bit bizzare

Im not close enough to the player to be sure, but I think he wanted to go back home to care for his sick father, who has since passed.

Griffin has fallen behind Zac clarke as well as Sandilands. I imagine he doesnt want want to spend another season playing 3rd string ruckman when he is basically guaranteed a 1st ruck spot with Port.

I wouldn't have thought Port would chase him that hard. Freo really have to make the move as he is still contracted, and they wont let him go for nothing, which is all thatb Port will be willing to offer. I would think Port would have a better crack at Maric and if they couldnt land him then just work on a young kid like a Reddan or Bass to partner Lobbe. the key for Port is if they are going to have young ruckman playing then Partner then together to shoulder the load.

Port have done their slow rise back to respectability no harm with the re-signings of John Butcher (the latest "could be anything" player), Lobbe (a ruckman with raw talent that needs good coaching- Primus should be able to do something with this kid if no-one else on his list), Trengove and Boak...

Nowhere near done- not sure how many others are out of contract, but another ruckman, preferably with more experience than Jon Griffin, would be the number one priority.

JONATHON Griffin is set for showdown talks with Fremantle today as Port Adelaide's interest in him escalates.

The former Crows ruckman will meet Dockers coach Mark Harvey to discuss his future just days after new Power list manager Jason Cripps sounded out the WA club about his availability.

Griffin, 25, is questioning his future at Fremantle - despite still being under contract - after failing to become Aaron Sandilands' regular sidekick, which he was promised when he quit the Crows last year.

Griffin played just seven games for the season and, despite averaging 14 disposals and 28 hit-outs, he fell behind 21-year-old Zac Clarke in the ruck pecking order.

With Brisbane Lions tall Mitch Clark seeking a trade back to Perth - and probably the Dockers - Griffin is considering pursuing greater opportunities with Port.

But he said the 201cm giant was open to returning to SA.

Port is desperate to find some mature-age ruck support for 13-game Matthew Lobbe and Griffin, who showed significant improvement this year, appears the ideal fit.

Despite returning to Perth largely for family reasons last year, he owns a house in the Port Adelaide area and his girlfriend is from Adelaide.

Realistically, if GWS gets Brogan and The Chad, it's no great loss for the Power, as those two have retired...

Will be interesting to see if they lose any more...
