Big Loser = Hawthorn.
Big Winner = Port.

And Essendon essentially, with picking up Williams for that Pick 16, have given away Andrew Lovett to get Williams. I know Lovett wanted out, but they haven't fared to well with the whole situation either.

Can't see how the Hawks lose. Williams was expendable as Dowler has passed him so he would have struggled to get a game. Plus his attitude in the VFL finals was crap. I think it's win win all round. Well maybe not Essendon

Hawthorn did well to offload Williams for Pick 16, but surely to then give up two first-round draft picks for an overrated 28 year-old with a dodgy knee isn't ideal?

Burgoyne turns 27 in 2 weeks for starters. Pick 16 is almost in the 2nd round and it's a weak draft. The Hawks midfield next year will consist of Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Ellis etc. Pretty formidable. If only Simple Simon Taylor wasn't the ruck

I stand corrected on the age thing. Taylor would've been ideal for Port, they're short a ready-to-go ruckman even if he is terrible, they must not rate him at all either. Although with Campbell retiring Hawthorn probably thought they couldn't afford to lose him or Renouf.

Dowler has passed Williams? Must have missed that but I don't watch the Hawks all that often. That midfield isn't all that formidable though. Hodge is a Joel Bowden chip scab across half back, Burgoyne will be a lemon and Jordan Lewis can get sucked in. The only players I rate in that lot are Mitchell and Sewell.

It seems Richmond are the 4th club involved and it seems like the most complicated deal in history!

Essendon seem to have got draft pick 24 as well as Williams, and a pick in the 30s

I won't even attempt to write out the entire deal as other web sites are reporting it

Burgoyne goes to Hawthorn
Jay Nash to Port
Mark Williams to Essendon
Josh Kennedy and Ben McGlynn to Sydney
Geelong gets improved picks
Port ends up with picks 9 and 16 (from Essendon)
Multiple 2nd and 3rd round picks change hands
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

Rhyce Shaw, Anthony Corrie, Farren Ray, Brent Prismall, Robbie Warnock and Adam Thompson were the only players to leave their clubs last year.

Kennedy is average, McGlynn is a real Sydney type player though and will flourish.

As for Port, cannot believe they got 2 first round draft picks for Burgoyne. What an overpayment by Hawthorn for a guy who isn't even that good. Carlton must be loving their McLean for pick 11 even more so now.

Port 3 first round picks. :( Hope they stuff up again. Will be hard though as they can draft for need.

Port Gain:

Nash
Pick 9, 16

Lose:

Burgoyne
Pick 24, 40, 56

They did well, thanks Hawthorn.

So their picks are now: 8, 9, 16, 72.

Gee, they had want to do well early.

Hawthorn gave up Pick 9 and Lazy Williams for Burgoyne. Think that is pretty fair for them. Port with Picks 9 and 16 look to have done well but now have to draft well.

Apparently its a thin draft this year, I would say with 3 picks in the first round you would be happy.

AFL would have to look at Hawthorn, brisbane and St kilda in regards to salary cap.

hawks burgoyne, gibson + hodge just signed and buddy
Brisbane brown signed last year for a mill a year. now picking fev (maybe)
st kilda signed riewoldt again now got lovett on at least $300.,000 a year
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

Brown would be veteran listed. Bradshaw would've been on decent coin.
Black veteran list as well as Power probably (or close). Plus they get extra room in the cap
cos they're in Bris-Vegas

I dont think any club would be stupid enough to exceed the cap these days, look what it did to Carlton

In Brown's case Im sure he has a back ended contract which would finish when he becomes a veteran, therefore only half is salary counts in the cap

Saints have some stars but it drops off pretty quickly, Im sure the last 4-5 players in the GF side (Mcwalter etc) wouldnt be on big $$$$
