Typical.. work getting in the way of more important matters!

Question then Mr Boon, what's your thoughts on Marshall? Understand he's going to be something special and he's a good player, but the last two weeks he's looked to me a little underdone/off the pace? Was he brought back too early? Is Watts a chance to replace him?

Also, I understand Friday was a really tough, contested, finals like game with a lot of pressure - was enjoyable to watch (sort of) - but the basic skills and disposal of PA must surely be of concern?! Countless times out on the full, or turned over and not always under pressure.

I think they would have liked Marshall to have another run in the SANFL before he came back, but, Watts' form in the Richmond and Hawthorn games probably made the decision easier to bring him in at Watt's expense. With the 'Pies playing Sunday before the Friday Melbourne game there was no way Watt's was coming straight back in on a 4 day break, so Marshall got another one and the Magpies had the bye last weekend meaning Watt's didn't get two in a row to push for a recall this week.

For mine that means Marshall stays in this week and Watts plays against Norwood on Sunday to make another case for selection. It will need to be a howler from Marshall and pearler from Watts this week to be a change for the week after, the coaches love Marshall, as do many of us.

Complicating that even further is Thomas' form seeming to be pleasing to the coaches and, while I'd rather Johnson than Thomas, the balance looks better now Wingard has gone into the middle and we're playing Dixon,Marshall and Westhoff at times as the targets, Thomas, S.Gray defensive, R.Gray as he pleases and Wingard,Rockliff etc as the resting midfielder. It gives us greater flexibility with Westhoff as the third tall as he can go anywhere, when Watts is in there's no room for Westhoff down there.

Having said that, I think come the finer weather and hopefully we're part of the action then will see Watts in the side.

Melbourne are the side that lay the 3rd most tackles, win the 2nd most clearances and apply as much pressure as any side in the competition. They played far better than us Friday night, had more of the ball, won more of the contests, smashed us I50's and we won by a couple of goals.

Don't want to give up that many I50's to sides going forward but if we do we know we can absorb the pressure. Disposal efficiency is and has been as issue for us for a while, I think it's improving.

Seems not. Arrived late for today's session so hasn't been considered for selection.

Well I guess when there is pressure on positions (Trengove) then it's a good thing to have standards and be able to make players accountable to maintain them.

Pleasing that Trengove gets an opportunity following his SANFL form as well.. good for you Jack!

Be interesting if Wines, Gray or Ryder were late for training the week before a final or a crucial minor round game...
