I've outlined a lot on this topic so you can go back and read those points I've made Wedgie. Your accusation that Rendells possible solution is akin to that of the stolen generation is absurd and insulting to those that were so severely affected by the forced removal of family by the government of the day.
I disagree, I just asked my Dad if he was insulted by my post and he wasn't, he also agreed with my point.
I'm not sure now promoting better education that many people pay a lot to supply for their kids equates to "a new type of stolen generation".

If you offer Aboriginal players Scholarships, it's condescending (and racist).
If you don't offer Aboriginal players Scholarships, it's racist.

Does anyone recall Geelong's "handling" of Ezra Bray??

Found on the net quite an interesting read. Cats and the AFL could have done alot better at the time.

At what point does one need to take control of their actions was an interesting point in that sad, sad yarn.

I know of two footballers, very talented as kids, who've 'lost it' and 'football' hasn't helped them.
One was in the last SA side to win the last SA team to win the national under 18s title. His section in the 'where are they now' on team members is always a sad postscript for those who know the story.
The other player made it on to an AFL list and from what I understand lived with a fellow player who is regarded as football royalty.
I remember playing games with him where he just stood in the middle of field with no real concept of what was going on around him.

The system didn't catch or help those guys and no system ever does.

Port offer Rendell a return to AFL ranks.

PORT Adelaide has offered former Crows national recruiting manager Matt Rendell a return to AFL football.
Rendell, forced out of his job in March for his insensitive remarks on indigenous players, would work at arm's length from the Power's national recruiting network as a recruiting scout of under-18 footballers.

He would then advise Port's national recruiting manager Geoff Parker and list manager Jason Cripps on potential draft prospects.

Port chief executive Keith Thomas says the Power already has addressed the issue of any potential concerns from its Aboriginal players.

The feedback was no Port player would take issue with Rendell returning to Alberton where he was an assistant coach a decade ago.

Rendell was forced to resign at Adelaide after making racially inappropriate remarks to AFL officials, including Jason Mifsud, at a meeting at West Lakes in February.

Although it was not the only racially loaded remark he made, Rendell told Mifsud the problems with drafting indigenous players was reaching the stage that clubs might draft Aboriginals only if they had a white parent.

Gee...the Crows would have a right to feel pretty pissed off about that, wouldn't they?

Luck has been kind to him ;)
From the tiser.
Rendell refuses Power offer

FORMER Crows recruiting manager Matt Rendell has turned down an offer to join Port Adelaide.

Rendell is now expected to move to Melbourne where he has at least one Victorian-based club ready to hire him for his noted scouting of draft talent.

Under the Port Adelaide proposal, Rendell would have worked at arm's length from the Port's network as a scout of under-18 footballers.

He would have then advised Port recruiting manager Geoff Parker and list manager Jason Cripps on draft prospects.
