AFL need to bring in a rule that if a player creates the high contact by their actions it's play on. Be it a duck, lowering the head of rolling the shoulders.
They have perfected it. Another one that does it well is Toby Maclean from the dogs. Watch him today, he is less subtle about it because he basically lifts his right arm amd then holds the opposition arm between his shoulder and chin. Gets frees every week from it!

I believe the rule states that if the player does anything that initiates head high contact it will be play on

Id like to know what the exact wording is because if it is what you say then Selwood should never get a free with the shoulder roll or when he lifts his arm up

High Tackle - Players Drawing High Contact:
The first assessment for the umpire will continue to be whether the tackle was applied in an appropriate manner.

Umpires will be asked to call play on when a tackle is assessed as reasonable (no swinging arm or contact being incidental) and the player with the ball is responsible for the high contact.

It is important to note that at all times the ball carrier retains protection against high or indiscriminate tackling.

Ok so does that mean Selwood raising his arms and or rolling the shoulders is responsible for the high contact? Obviously not according to the umpires but should he be responsible for it?

We were terrible today. The loss of Fantasia early really hurt.
Crows have the bye next week, no Merrett or Fantasia should be a 10 goal plus hiding

It's hard to interpret fully from what the AFL have published, still a very grey area. I do think it's overstated about Selwood though as most of his frees are simply because he goes in so hard with no fear. I think the interpretation wording was mainly changed for players dropping at the knees into high tackles.
Definitely a point of contention worth discussing though, I'm happy to be objective about it.

Stats show otherwise...

I dont think Simpson and Guthrie are ready for senior footy just yet but we were probably left without much choice last night. Scott is never going to be publicly critical of the kids though, who knows what he says to them behind closed doors. Buzza shows good signs but needs to get on the scoreboard. I thought Parsons did well enough

Spot on nix. We've played a heap who aren't ready this season. If we make the top four we've done bloody well. We don't have the bottomless pit of draft picks the Giants have. We need our full strength side in and firing next month but not that hopeful of it actually happening. As long as we don't roll over like we did in the Prelim I can cop that.
