That's right Tex. Anyone who doesn't want to be a part of the GFC should go. Bomber has been at the club for eleven seasons and we couldn't have asked him for anymore. I disagree that we were the second best side in it thought. We were outclassed twice by the Saints and it would have been a steal had we jagged that win. Geelong had a chance to defeat Collingwood but got belted in the Prelim. Better that than to get belted in the Granny. Geelong lacked legspeed and did not come up with any tactical moves to counter the strategies of Lyon and Malthouse. We went 1-4 against the Grand Finalists and simply didn't deserve to be there. Geelong remained stationary while St Kilda and in particular Collingwood improved and evolved. Collingwood earnt this premiership because unlike the Cats and Saints, everyone on that list is a contributor. The only passenger was Davis and he got left at the station.

I take your point, still feel it would be a fairly close third then. I think that the pies at thier best were a lond way above the rest, then your guys and the saints, I feel the gap got even wider from there, the rest of the comp will need to do some improving in 2011 if they are to be competetive.

Read in the Tiser today that the Power are after Andrew Mackie...

FWIW, I think they can have him...

Cos he got stuck into Ablett about a lack of loyalty and praised Selwood for displaying loyalty. If he jumps ship to join the Bombers he is a hypocrite.

Is it time for the Cats to put a couple of big names on the trading table to try and regenerate their list? While they lose Ablett and quite probably Ottens and Milburn through retirement, they won't get anything "immediately beneficial" for this. Would it be worth looking at putting up a, say, Joel Corey, Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly or the aforementioned Andrew Mackie to see if they can trade for a younger player to come in at the opposite end?

i wouldnt trade chappy or corey

Podsiadly out of those 3 named I would trade. i think we have players who didnt get much or any league time this year on the trade table as there will be clubs who may take them

Why all the gloom you cats fans. Shoe in for top 4 again next year and once you get the double chance anything can happen. Youve lost a champion and a coach but still have 5 all australians and another 18 who would walk into nearly any side in comp. Your time aint over yet

Lose Ablett, probably move Varcoe into the midfield there... Massive loss.
Lose Milburn, who comes in? David Johnson? Again a big loss.

Daniel Menzel, Mitch Duncan, and Jeremy Laidler have looked alright, but all massive downgrades on the guys they replace.

And Blake worries me. Absolutely love the Gazelle, but all he is at present is a serviceable BACKUP ruck to Ottens, who does not need to retire.

If Otto goes, we can't rely on Blake and West/Simpson, so unless we trade for a ready made ruck player, or unless Blake has a Jamar-like break out, we are in trouble there. And if we can't win the taps, we are going to really struggle.

Mackie wanting out, if it is dinkum, doesn't phase me too much, not really a player I rate. I also can't see anything on the trade table that we would be interested in (with Port being the current alleged suitor).

Bottom half of the top eight. :(
And straight out of the finals.

Mitch clarke would look good in a cats jumpet

David Johnson? He retired last year. No, the replacement for Milburn is Taylor Hunt, a kid I really rate. He would not be a 'downgrade' either as he can run and looks the good. Dasher sadly, does not live up to his name any more. Otto is well and truly gone Parky and ruck remains a big issue at Geelong last year. Blake has requested a trade so look for guys like Dawson Simpson to get a lot more game time next year. If we trade we probably need a ruckman...problem is, so do about five other clubs.

Yep, if we could get him that would be great. After all, everyone else has already jumped off the SS Voss which is sinking rapidly.

Apparently he's on a back ended contract which is scaring teams off trading for him.
