Port – which held firm on not trading midfielder Nick Stevens to Collingwood in 2003 – says it will not let Burgoyne join Hawthorn without a "favourable" deal. This sets up the prospect of Burgoyne being blocked, as Sydney club champion Ryan O'Keefe was last year when he sought to join the Hawks but failed to get a trade.
"That will not happen," said Williams. "Shaun is prepared to enter the national or pre-season draft pool if he is not traded."
This would make Burgoyne the target of Melbourne coach Dean Bailey, a former Port assistant coach, who has the No. 1 draft pick.
I have heard from sources close to the Burgoyne family that he honestly does not care where he goes whether it be West Coast, Melbourne or even Adelaide he just wants out of Port.....Hawks is only his "preference".
With Essendon having picks 10 & 16 in the 1st round I reckon they will still play a part in this deal somehow.
