I think you've answered your own question there, no one wanted to waste their vote on him this year when he'll more than likely get maximum next year.

They intimated on Footy Classified that judging panel would have been "encouraged" to not give him votes. Ross Lyon was adamant he had to win, despite the five games. Would have looked strange if some selectors gave him 5 votes and others none. Think the correct decision was made in the end.

I think it was the TAB are not paying out on Port to finish top etc on bets placed before the season break after Round 1.

The person i heard on the radio was an old lady who's husband had won $2600 on it if paid out. She said it was his biggest win ever, instead they got their $50 back.
Think the crux of the call was that nobody knew it had happened, presumably they announced it months ago then. I wonder how many other people have thrown tickets away that could be refunded, ie someone who backed anybody else to win the minor premiership before round1 break?? TAB would know how much they have in outstanding refunds

Im assuming the issue is mainly pub TABs, they wouldve made a tidy little sum out of it. Anything online wouldve been simple refund
I wonder at the time how many people requested refunds thinking the season was done and dusted or at the very least wanted to reinvest their money rather than have it tied up for an unknown length of time?
